Separation/stranger anxiety?
Ds is almost 4 1/2 months old and the past few weeks, cries hysterically whenever someone other than my husband/me or my MIL hold him.
He used to go to absolutely anyone. Now all of a sudden, he cries.
I remember my nephew doing this, but i forget how long it lasted.
Anyone else going through this? How long does this last?

Re: Separation/stranger anxiety?
Ryan has been like this since about 10 weeks old. In order for him to hang out with someone he has to be in the *perfect* mood otherwise he just throws a tantrum.
Only me and DH can hold him at any time.
I have no idea how long it lasts but I can say its ridiculously annoying.

Yeah it's a bit frustrating because my SIL watches him sometimes for up to 2 hours here and there and i feel bad. But it's also annoying because who's going to want to babysit this screaming kid?

Ditto!!! I completely understand how you feel. I posted the same thing 7 months ago: Stranger anxiety
My son is almost a year old now and he still has "stranger anxiety". It is definitely a pain and is stressful for me when we go to big gatherings. For example, we had his christening this weekend and i had to hold him for a good portion of it since he won't go to just anyone. Right now, my biceps are throbbing! Fortunately he goes to his grandmother so i was able to take a break for a few minutes.
As my friends have been telling me, we just have to hang in there, i guess. Hopefully it will all pass soon.

Re: Separation/stranger anxiety?
We're going through seperation anxiety with Rylan right now. Our situation is a little different because it's not with strangers...he just freaks out if i'm not next to him. If I leave the house he is fine though...he just can't know i'm there and not next to him. It's been going on for about 2 weeks now and it really s*cks...lol. I hope it doesn't last long!!

Re: Separation/stranger anxiety?
John started this when he was your DS's age. One day I brought him to my old office and someone went to go pick him up and he cried and screamed. He would only let me, DH and my parents hold him. Whenever my IL's came up for a visit he would cry right away. I didn't realize that I was sheltering him alot so I started gonig to the library and got him out more. Still to this day, he is shy and takes him awhile to warm up too people. The sepration anxiety came later. I would be in one room and he would be in another and he would cry. But it does go away.

Believe me, I know! But apparently this can sometimes last till 18 months or so from what i have read. Guess we will have to just wait it out and enjoy it while they still want to be with us.

Re: Separation/stranger anxiety?
DS is like this too - it's so sad. I thought he'd be better than my DD. I learned both of my children HATE loud in your face type people. They prefer mellow and warm up so much more easily.
With my DD as she got older she would go to people and still does when I tell her to at 2 years old...but she will just give them a blank stare instead of smiling at them or talking to them. She is very particular with who can make her laugh, etc.
DS is so smiley but likes to have his space and is a TOTAL mama's boy. He also prefers women.
