ALL FOR IT!!!
No offense, but I think it should be BANNED COMPLTELY. Period.
Watch anyone you love hooked up to a respirator, sedated, while their lungs get suctioned just to clean them out. Watch them suffer with lung disease, emphysema, chronic illness, nagging cough, and heart problems.
I can't see how they can still sell these things.
Me too!!
My MIL is dying because of smoking

If you don't like this ban, then don't move to CA. In many places - you cannot even smoke outdoors. Even some apartment complexes ban you from smoking on your own terrace because it bothers the people around you.
I say bring it to NY! I love the smoking bans!
I love smoking bans too!

Re: Smoking ban in cars...
I love it! My Boss smokes and since he shares custody with his ex-wife, he doesn't smoke in the car when he has the kids (although they're teenagers). That, and he doesn't want his new car to smell like smoke.
My Dad used to smoke pipes and we'd make him open the window when he smoked in the car, and it was horrible, tho. I'd hate to see what my lungs look like after inhaling that smoke in for so many years!

All for it.
They're not banning smoking in cars completely....just when there are children present. I can't see why anyone would debate that. Becuase it is not illegal. I agree it is a good idea for people to NOT smoke in a car with thier kids, but we need to have choices in this country. I personally think it is sick when people smoke in a car with their kids in it. But having a choice taken away, in any small measure, is another way that the government is becoming less democratic & laissez-faire and more totaltarian. Sorry that is my opinion.
Where are the childrens' rights? The right to a healthy life?
I think the loss of that "freedom" is well worth it.
Drinking is legal, but yet it's against the law to drive while under the influence...why's that? Could it be that it endangers the well being of others (and yourself)? Same with cell phone use. And smoking in a vehicle with children present falls into that category. You can talk on a cellphone, just hands free. And liquor is considered a controlled substance. My point is if the problem is the tobacco, then make it a controlled subsctance too. I think no loss of freedom is worth it when our men & women are dying everyday to propogate it. Sorry but I think it is hypocritical.
If the tobacco is dangerous (which it is) then ban that.

Am I the only one who thinks this is a little Totaltarianistic? I am all for ecouraging people to have a healthy lifestyle, especially with & around children, but I think this is just another way of slowly robbing us of our freedoms. Smoking is not illegal, and to place a ban on a legal iutem seems like a bad precedent.
I agree with this. Personally I agree with the thought, but I don't agree with it being made into law

Before anyone flames I am a former smoker, and I have lost numerous people to lung cancer & other smoking related illnesses & watched them suffer, including my grandfather who meant more to me than almost anyone else in this world. I just feel like we are humans, adults & can make our own choices without the government dictating them. JMO
But, smoking *IS* illegal for under 18, just like alcohol is illegal for under 21. They are trying to protect those that do not have a voice to protect themselves. If under 18 can't buy cigarettes, they shouldn't be able to breathe 2nd hand smoke.
While the law may infringe on a smoker's freedom to smoke, it *protects* an underage, non-smokers freedom to not breathe smoke, which, IMHO, is much more important.

I wish that you couldn't smoke within say a 20 foot radius of store fronts. i hate going to the grocery store or Target and smelling like I just smoked not to mention it makes me cough.

Actually in NY you are supposed to be 25 feet from the entrance but no one really enforces it. It also drives me nuts. This is public property though & a little different IMO. I agree that the kids are the victims in the car. I grew up smoking Camel non-filters b/c that is what my father smoked every f-in time we got in the car. My mom would go "Ya know you shouldn't smoke with the kids in the car" & then laugh it off. Sorry mom, not enough. But to make it a law. The government is invading your private space. Sorry if it is that much of an issue then ban the sale of tobacco. It is a drug just like alcohol & other controlled substances.

Re: Smoking ban in cars...
My question is: Are they really going to enforce it?
I just don't see it happening.
