So while I wouldn't say he deserved it, I'll say I wouldn't have expected anything different.

Dh and i were on our way home from upstate Sunday and thank god for the traffic we hit, bc we would of probably been in that mess. Its a shame what happened to that poor family. If that was us DH would of ran them all over and backed up too. These people are animals.
A few weeks ago DH came home from work and told me a story about some guys on ATV'S that blocked off the parkway and stood there so no one else could get on the parkway and took it over. This should not be allowed!!!! It makes me sick!!!

That was also it! What we saw wasn't necessarily a motorcycle gang but dirt bikes and quads. That CAN'T be legal!!!

Nor should they act all indignant about it. Puh-lease. They are the EPITOME of assholes, among other things.
Honestly, I don't feel badly for the injured guy AT ALL. I read in an article, his wife is quoted as saying "he was just trying to help." Im SUUUUUUURRREE and it is insulting to the victims.

I understand that not all bikers are like this. But when I see the stickers "Watch for bikers" I always roll my eyes. Yes, I watch for them b/c a good amount of them act like azzholes and scare the crap out of me when I am driving.
This RR driver cut them off way before the video started and almost knocked 3 of them off their bikes. I don't care how crazy someone is driving in their car or a bike you take yourself out of the situation not make it worse by cutting them off.

Everyone involved was in the wrong. There was more involved before the video. you are only seeing a short piece.
I really don't understand how you are an attorney with this attitude  unless you are like Saul from Breaking Bad. You are justifying a mob of individuals for attacking 1 person. Think about if it was your child that was being attacked by a group of kids in a school yard. Whoever started it, does it justify their behavior? And I am not sure if you posted the picture of the guy in the hospital for sympathy. As multiple people on this thread have stated, this group of individuals has been known to cause trouble. Some group of friends you associate with!

A second motorcyclist allegedly involved in Sunday's Manhattan melee, which led to the beating of an SUV driver and crippling injuries to another biker, turned himself in to police Tuesday for questioning.
Allan Edwards, 42, of Jamaica, voluntarily went to the 113th Precinct in Queens, according a law enforcement official who didn't want to be named. Edwards, who was to be taken to the 33rd Precinct in Manhattan for questioning, had not been charged as of late Tuesday.
"I don't know anything," said a woman who answered the telephone at Edwards' home, though she acknowledged he had gone to talk with police.
One of the bikers, Christopher Cruz of New Jersey, has been arrested on charges of reckless endangerment and other offenses in the case, which led to the assault of the Range Rover driver who police said had run over another motorcyclist on West Side Drive. Part of the incident was recorded by a helmet camera worn by one of the bikers.
Edwards was seen in one of the frames of video striking the Range Rover, the law enforcement official said.
The group of bikers were involved in what police Commissioner Ray Kelly called a "stunt" in which the riders ultimately try to get into Times Square to rally. Sunday's group did not make it into Times Square, as they had a year ago, Kelly said.
The NYPD said they are intensely investigating the incident, which left biker Edwin Mieses, 32, of Massachusetts in St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital Center in critical condition. He was intubated, and had multiple injuries, including two broken legs.
The case has also raised questions about whether the SUV driver, identified in numerous news reports as Alexian Lien, bears any legal responsibility for what happened.
"I am not going to say at this juncture, the investigation is ongoing," Kelly said Tuesday when asked about the case and other possible charges.
Kelly said Lien, of lower Manhattan, who had stopped his vehicle after hitting one of the bikers, was cooperating with investigators. After stopping, Lien's black Range Rover was surrounded by angry bikers, who pummeled his car with their helmets and slashed one of his tires, police said.
Lien, whose wife and daughter were in the SUV, drove about 4 miles north on the Henry Hudson Parkway to the 178th Street exit. There he was surrounded on a side street by the pursuing bikers, who took him out of the SUV and beat him, Kelly said. Lien received stitches at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University Medical Center on Sunday. His wife and daughter were not hurt.
Neither Lien nor his family could be reached Tuesday for comment. Mieses family also couldn't be reached.

It's crazy luck/arrogance that the bikers taped and posted this. Drivers need dashboard cameras to protect themselves.
In the future, I predict we'll all have them, and the police will be able to get involved after the fact with the aid of a tape.
Truth is, it'll probably make us all accountable.
But no more of this. Bring 'em all in, and make sure that there is no more of this.
Outrageous and sickening.

I agree, I'm surprised the driver didn't try to run more of them off the road after the guy tried opening his door. From the video, the got I'm front of him (for whatever reason, who knows) and blocked him so he hit the guys bike by accident and then they surrounded him and started attacking his car.
I would have done the same thing and these people on the bikes are disgusting people

Further showing what assholes they are. Apparently red lights are optional as is driving on the right side of the road or for that matter even driving on the road! Who knew sidewalks were for assholes riding ****** rice rockets??
Like I said earlier, they're well known for these antics it was only a matter of time before someone got hurt. I'm just glad it was one them. Unfortunately they took a good guy down too.

Luckily they have tons of surveillance cameras on the west side hwy and streets, so they will likely be able to get more footage to help with additional IDs. They actually just showed pics of the SUV driver being beaten on the news as well as an image of his wife in the car. So terrible and makes me absolutely sick.

My Mom was just telling me that she and my Dad were driving on the Cross Island this spring and these guys were around her driving very dangerously and doing tricks and make the road very unsafe. My Dad blew his horn at him and they surrounded his car and were harassing him.
THESE PEOPLE ARE CRIMINALS!! They are going to kill someone. The police can't catch them because they go faster than the police.
Share the road... right.. they need to learn that lesson. When one of them gets killed it is on their head. I just hope that no innocent motorists or pedestrians gets killed by them in the process.

This was the guy that the RR driver ran over. This guy is in a medically induced coma and might not walk again.
and why was he run over....because the RR wanted to get by the bikers and didn't want to get in the left lane that was open and every other car was passing them by in.
Please. This driver of the RR is not innocent by any means and so far the media has only shown one side.
I am still not condoning the riders actions by beating him in front of his family but I am sorry....if you run over one of my friends I am probably going to chase you down and get you to stop so the cops can arrest you.
THIS is why you don't antagonize and terrorize someone on the road. THIS is what happens when you act like a disgusting, self entitled, animal on the road.
If I were in the same situation as that RR I NO doubt would've reacted the same way. How scary to be in the car with your family and be surrounded by an endless sea of bikers trying to CLEARLY start trouble. All that RR was trying to do was get the hell out of there and protect himself and his family. I think ANYONE in that situation would do the same. I'm sure he wasn't thinking clearly to even notice a clear left Lane, he was just trying to get away from them........fast. I don't think you can fault him given the circumstances.
I hate to use the term, "he got what he deserved" but you know what, that biker should've known better. He caused his own injuries. He joined in with his "friends" to terrorize that family and in doing so, he ended up in the hospital. He has NOBODY to blame but himself and I actually don't feel bad for him. I hope the rest of them are caught and punished severely. Their behavior and actions were so disgusting and despicable I was at a loss for words when I was watching that video. Such animals.

I think the real question we should all be asking is how this kind of stuff has been allowed to go on for as long as it has without widespread awareness and crackdowns. How could this just be a thing that was allowed to happen again and again until it came to this?

ITA a you Hofstra, these guys zeroed in on him thinking he had $$$ and he was asian ( probably thought he wouldn't do anything). They didn't realize that he would panic and drive away. The guy in coma can only blame himself , obviously he was trying to block the car.
That video is terrifying, and it could have ended w more bikers being hurt or killed.

I don't even think that many of these pigs have license plates on their bikes, so they probably won't ever be caught. Sad, but karma will get them. It already got one of their buddies!

I don't understand why there were no state troopers around for FOUR MILES.
This video makes me sick because I've seen these, or others like them, do the same thing.
ATVs are not licensed for road use, so that's ticketable right there. The ones I've seen also bend up their license plates so the cops can't read them. These are hoodlums, gangs looking for a bit of fun and didn't think they would get caught. They think they're above the law and they are disgusting TRASH.
If I were them I'd stay off the roads, I'm sure a few vigilantes will see a guy on a rice burner and beat the crap out of them.
