But there are a LOT of voters who are A) not that educated about politics and/or B) are more concerned with identity politics than issues who were HRC supporters or undecideds who will switch to McCain because he has a female running mate and they want to see a woman in the White House.
ITA with this!

While I think it was a "Brilliant" move I also now think it is going to hurt him.
Republicans were not going to vote for Obama anyway but Democrats could have voted for McCain. He is more middle of the road and some people wanted Hillary.
So why woud they vote for McCain now.
I think the Republicans have more to lose in this move than the Democrats.
Well, she is pro-life. Not all women are pro-life.
She is a member of the NRA as a "pre-requisite".
She has very little experience. It's her 1st term as a Governor. Before that she was a Mayor.
She is OK with oil pumping in wild reserve.
So... while a tactic to attract women, it actually turns me off.

I am glad you are very "pro keeping the constitution the way it was written." That's very admirable of you.
You may want to actually read it, though. As noted, there is a constitutional right to bear arms. There is also a "right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness."
Incidentally, there is no right to abort babies. There is not even a right to privacy.
All rights that are not specifically granted in the Constitution are left to the states. (Read the X amendment) Hence, abortion as the fundamental law of the land is not in the Constitution and technically should be left to the states to determines its legality and/or limits. But, that's just me...someone who is actually very pro reading the Constitution and abiding by it....

Re: So, for all of you who said McCain is brilliant for choosing Palin...why?
It was "brilliant" because McCain announced it right after Obama's speech. No one talked about Obama's speech yesterday; no one could get past the mysterious woman pick. Even on here, that was the news yesterday!
Alos, Obama chanted words like "yes we can" and had a moving speech, but then on the heels of that, McCain does an actual move and doesn't speak. It's like McCain said "actions speak louder than words". Match point, KWIM?
I'm just saying why it was brilliant from a party perspective and what other Americans can see. My mind was already made up months ago.

Ummm...that is my point. I'm a big fan of states' rights and a smaller federal government....

actually- you are mis-quoting me
I was making the point that you can be pro- choice and pro the right to own a gun
that not all democrats want guns to be illegal
I never said the right to have an abortion was in the constitution

I for one, will not vote for McCain now. This move swayed me to Obama. She is way too far to the right for me. I won't vote for someone based on gender alone.
I am happy that this election is historical though.
I wait for the debates and all the other skeletons that will come out on both sides and the flip flopping.

Re: So, for all of you who said McCain is brilliant for choosing Palin...why?
I think it was a good move because the short-sighted Hillary supporters who are just looking at a woman making history aren't looking at the policies she supports. They do not have the same politics. They only thing they have in common is both have a uterus.
I also think that she will bring the Bible belt in because she is about as conservative as you can get. In addition, she has "walked the walk".
She is pro-life & chose not to abort her son with DS.
She has a son in the military.
She has a blue-collar husband.
She'll maintain our dependency on oil.
Personally, I see Cheney's hand in her nomination.

Re: So, for all of you who said McCain is brilliant for choosing Palin...why?
Off topic, but there are too many scary people running around with guns. I have no objection to people using hunting rifles, but why does anyone really need a hand gun?
Too many people die trying to defend their homes with their own guns. And look at what happened with those teens in, oh gosh, I forget the town last year, the case where one teen's father shot another teen.
I am just not for them. Too many of the wrong people have hand guns.
