So I rented a doppler and now I am freaking out...
I hear the babies heartbeat and it is sooo slow. It mimics mine. I am freaking out because everything I read online is saying this means an impending m/c.
Did anyone else have a low heartbeat and everythin turn out ok?
TIA

I think it is too early to go by the doppler. Also, be careful what you read online, I know for me all it does is totally freak me out!!!

It might be your own heartbeat you are picking up?

Re: So I rented a doppler and now I am freaking out...
How far along are you? You might be picking up the beat of the placenta. It's a swooshing sound. Start out really really really low in your pubic area in the middle...I was looking in the wrong place for a while and freaked out and then went down really low and found it. HTH

A word of advice...whenever checking for the babies heartbeat on a doppler you are suppose to listen to the heart beat and at the same time check your pulse so that you know that you are indeed listening to the babies heartbeat and not your own. Your aorta runs very far down your abdomen and you can be picking that up!

And this is EXACTLY why I will not be renting a doppler. I'll become psychotic and listen to it multiple times a day.
Remember, you're not a trained physician/technician so you're not always going to know what you're doing. I'd save hearing the HB for your obgyn visits.

Re: So I rented a doppler and now I am freaking out...
I thought about renting one, then a couple of weeks ago when I was the doctor, he had trouble finding baby A. He had to go back after finding B and then A was faint, he/she was hiding behind B or in a weird position. I knew if I had done that myself I would have been freaking out I couldn't find one of the hb's. I then decided not to rent a doppler.
It sounds to me you were hearing your own heartbeat.

Send it back to the company! Take it from someone who landed herself at the specialists office from doing her own investigative doppler work

Re: So I rented a doppler and now I am freaking out...
You'll hear your own heartbeat, sound of the placenta (whoosing sound) and your baby's HB will sound like a galloping horse. You should be at least 10 weeks before you hear the HB

It must be your own. The baby's heartbeat is fast and sounds like horses galloping.

You're probably checking too high up. You need to check really far down as early on as you are. I remember at 12 weeks my midwife was checking just a little above the hairline.

I hate to say it, but that's why I never rented one - with my first or this one...
Hopefully you are just hearing your own or you have nothing to worry about - either way, good luck!

I hate to say it, but I agree. I definitely considered getting one, but realized I'd probably make myself more nervous.
At my 11 week appointment, I heard the heartbeat with a doppler for the first time. The NP said it might be a little early to hear it. She found the heartbeat, but it took a minute or two and she's trained to do this. You're either too early or you probably weren't picking up the baby's heartbeat.

This is the reason why I never even considered a doppler; it would make me crazy and there is enough tests to stress over.

THAT is why my doctor recommended not to get one .
I'm sure it's nothing, maybe it's your own heartbeat.

ITA If I ever bought a doppler I would be crazy. Many OBGYN's suggest you do not get one for this reason.
I wouldn't worry about it. Like others said it may be your own heart beat. Put the doppler away.

It took me forever to find the baby's HB when I had the doppler with my first. And I was not able to get it consistently until about 13 weeks.

Re: So I rented a doppler and now I am freaking out...
Well for a different point of view, I love my doppler-it makes me feel so secure that I can hear their HB's anytime I want to and not have to wait for my next sono. I can find their HB's within less than a minute now and find them every time. I am 17.5 weeks. On the rare occasions that I couldn't find them in the past I wait and try again later.

Whats a doppler?? Its a machine to help you hear the baby's heart beat. There are a couple of companies that allow you to buy or rent them for at home use. I used BabyBeats last time and I loved it. They rent the same doppler that my OB uses in her office.
