Well for a different point of view, I love my doppler-it makes me feel so secure that I can hear their HB's anytime I want to and not have to wait for my next sono. I can find their HB's within less than a minute now and find them every time. I am 17.5 weeks. On the rare occasions that I couldn't find them in the past I wait and try again later.
I agree with you. It gave me piece of mind in those weeks where my symptoms went away but I couldn't feel the baby yet. I was able to pick up the HB around week 12-13 and I used the doppler fairly regularly until around 20 weeks. Once I felt the baby consistently I didn't feel the need to always check it anymore and now at almost 31 weeks I really don't use it at all. I will say that once you know what you're listening to it's easy to find. You have to go very low, and I mean LOW, way lower than you would think. Go slowly and use lots of gel. The baby's HB is unmistakable......it's twice as fast as your own and it sounds EXACTLY like a galloping horse. All of the other swishing and whooshing noises you hear are your HB, blood flow, placental noises, etc. Good luck and I'm sure everything is fine!!
