Re: So we can't eat cold cuts?
My doctor said moderation, but I still don't eat them. I do however eat subway toasted so they are cooked. Other than that I have not had a real deli sandwich since my BFP!

Re: So we can't eat cold cuts?
I've been eating ham sandwiches like they are going out of style. I get the cold cuts from Stop and Shop-where the deli is ALWAYS crazy busy and I buy Boar's Head only- which moves. So far I have not gotten listeria. I have never gotten listeria in my life... nor has anyone I know in all my 35 years.
I think it's ok...
Like a PP said- you have more chance of getting in a car accident while preggo- yet we still drive don't we?

I have steered clear of them until my 3rd trimester...now if I have them I will nuke them in the microwave for 15 seconds to kill any bacteria. PP Is right, everything in moderation.
Same here!

The issue is listeria which can be fatal to the baby. It has nothing to with eating it in moderation, you can eat it once and be taking the chance of eating something contaminated.
Best thing to do is if you really want cold cuts is to have them heated up so to kill any bacteria.
even if you get it at a reputible place, you don't know how often they clean the slicers.
I stayed clear of cold cuts when pregnant with DD, and will do the same with this pregnancy.
ITA! Listeria can be fatal to the baby, moderation will not help you there. If you heat the cold cuts up til they are steaming that should kill any bacteria.
ITA.

Re: So we can't eat cold cuts?
I haven't had any yet, but am dying for some bologna. I have had turkey once but I nuked it in the microwave & ate it with mash potatoes. My doctor said no coldcuts also, unless you nuke them. You have to do what you feel comfortable doing.

Re: So we can't eat cold cuts?
My doc said not to eat them, unless you put them in the micro, in which case, he said it tastes pretty gross. However, you can have cooked roast beef or turkey. He said no prob to those, and I've only eaten 2 roast beef sandwiches (a little on the well done side). I didn't eat any in my 1st tri

Is deli cheese considered "cold-cuts"?? I know this is prob a really dumb question.

Re: So we can't eat cold cuts?
The only "cold cut" I've had my entire preganancy is turkey..and I always make sure it is the natural turkey. Nothing processed though.

it is not a dumb question. logic tells me if you are avoiding cold cuts due to listeria, you would avoid anything that could come in contact with the slicer which would include the cheese.
also soft serve ice cream is also be avoided and honestly i would just avoid delis in general, what if they put a piece of bread on a surface where cold cuts come in contact with?
this is why i dont avoid it, it just gets too involved and i have enough anxiety as it is

A girl after my own heart! I tried to be SO strict in the beginning, and stressed myself out so bad that I figured THAT was worse for the baby than eating some carvel or a ham sandwich or a 1/2 a glass of wine or some Splenda. So now I'm just doing it all in moderation and I am SOOOO much happier!

Re: So we can't eat cold cuts?
I remember when my best friend was pregnant and told me she couldn't have cold cuts I thought she was crazy! I never heard of that before and I thought she must have a really strict doctor. But, sure enough, when I got pregnant and went to my Dr. he told me the same thing.
I ate one a few weeks after I found out I was pregnant because we had it for a New Years party and my Dr. hadn't told me to avoid it yet...but since then I have avoided it like the plague. I researched it online and I remember reading something like Listeria is one of the bacterias that can penetrate through to the baby and thats why its dangerous during pregnancy. I am such a nervous nelly though!
I was dying for grilled cheese so I had them give me a block of cheese instead of slicing it in the slicer, and then I cut all the sides when I got home..and then sliced it myself..and then grilled it! lmao...so I go a little overboard..lmaoo
That being said, my cousin is on her 2nd baby in 3 years..and eats sandwhiches everyday for lunch..we have the same Dr...she just doesn't want to listen..her first was perfectly healthy and her second one so far is fine and shes 26weeks..
It's all what you feel comfortable with...I just know, I personally, would sit there and regret it afterwards because I let my mind wander

Re: So we can't eat cold cuts?
My doctor stated it was okay to eat every once in a while as long as it is heated before eating. I like my sandwiches warm to begin with...If I feel like eating one I normal nuke the turkey for 15 seconds in the microwave before placing it in between the bread and chesse. Once it's assemble I nuke it again for 15 seconds...I like my chesse melted and just a little parnoid. Figure double nuke will kill all bacteria...LOL

ITA that's the thing for me. When you really think about the "bacteria" and not just coldcuts = bad, it becomes wildly out of control. Llisteria can be in a zillion other things that don't even have to do with delis and what then? JMO
