Re: Spin off to bedtimes...working mommies..

DS is three months as well and he goes to bed around 9ish (give or take depending on how tired he is).

I get home from work around 6:15 and we start the bedtime process around 8-8:30.

I don't keep him up to spend time with him though (although I do enjoy it).

DS only goes to daycare 2x a week since he's home with DH on the other days so he can sleep in most days on the other end.

Usually an hour and a half maybe 2 if that. I usually get home around 5:30ish and DD goes to be around 7:00-7:30.

i think when your DC gets a bit older his bedtime should move to 7 pm---9 pm is too late

it sux but they need their sleep

Every child is different. - Sean is 11 months and he's still going to sleep at 9 or 9:30 -
If he doesn't get a good nap,he's tired by 8:30 and I put him down for the night.

Ryan is 2 and goes to bed 8:30/8:45. And we started the late bedtime b/c then I wouldn't see him. I get home 7/7:30PM.

I know many parents keep their kids up because they want to spend time with them and I'm not flaming anyone who does so, to each its own. Whatever works for you. In my case I would rather have my baby well rested then to keep him up so I can have him to myself. I would feel incredibly selfish doing so. I spend about 1/2 hr in the morning with him and 2 hours when I pick him up from the babysitter. He can not function without his sleep. He's always been a great sleeper and a happy baby because of it. Sleep is one of the #1 priorities on my list for him. I wouldn't deprive him of food so why would I deprive him of sleep. KWIM?
It's sad I can't have more time with him as I so wish I could, but I know as he gets older his schedule will change and eventually the time we spend together on the week will increase. So for now this is all I can have with him during the week. But in 57 days I will be off for the summer and I will be spending every moment with him. So in my case I guess I have that to look forward to!

I think you're making a pretty big assumption here. No one said they were keeping their child awake. I certainly am not. My son falls asleep at 9 or 9:30. Should I just put him in his crib and let him scream when he could be awake hanging out with his parents?

We set Ryan's routine around my work schedule and will do the same with Colin. He is not a cranky kid that needs more sleep. We do what works for our family and he actually will still sometimes go in for a 2nd nap - although it's more like down time around 5:30PM.

Ryan's routine has been the same for over a yr - he wakes around 7:30AM. Takes a 2-hr nap around 12:30PM. Then some nights he goes into his crib with a few books around 5:30 for a half hour. I get home at 7PM and he goes to be at 8:30PM (although lately he is playing us for more time and it's closer to 8:45PM with a few books).

I don't feel selfish that he has a later bedtime to suit my work schedule. It's important that he have time with me and I make the most of that hour and a half with him at night.

I spend about 3 hours with home from the time I pick him up. He has pretty much set his bedtime and is even moving it up. I try to do fun things with him, even if it's just taking him to the stores. He loves being out.

Maybe 3 hours. I get home around 5:00 and he is usually in bed by 8-8-30. Often he has a little cat nap around 6:30-7.

I have been wondering if we should try getting him down earlier (he's not been doing great sleeping and I wonder if it's b/c it's too late?) but then our time would be even less. Chat Icon

I get home with DD at 5:30. We play, she eats dinner and gets a bath. She goes to bed around 8pm. Wakes up b/w 6:30 and 7am and naps for about 1.2 - 2 hours during the day.
