I don't know how having a parade that honors and celebrates someone's heritage and culture is segregation!  Yes, everyone's for assimilation (it seems) and that's great and all, but we are who we are because of our ancestors/background and since there is no "American" parade or culture...it's healthy to celebrate that which makes us, well, us. Even if the message gets diluted, I find it healthy to have a day to acknowledge our culture.
As for all girl schools, all boy, one color, etc. the argument was made that if someone of a different race/gender asks for admitance it has to be granted.
Certain things...like the Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, etc. are good for kids...take away the pedophiles...spending time with friends learning new things is always a good thing.
What's with the desire for everyone to be "vanilla" and one flavor.  I guess because, as a Puerto Rican, I was raised knowing that all of us (Puerto Ricans) are a mixture of African, indian (Taino) and Spaniard and actually taught about that in school I grew up loving individualityand different races. One "people" (my people) can be blonde haired, blue eyed or have dark skin and coarse hair...or like my mom look totally indian...and this was perfect.
I'm not sure what mainland Americans (and I say mainland because being born in PR makes me American by birth) want...because the American "culture" is really not one that is celebrated since it's British based...we're all here from somewhere else. Unless you're American Indian...your ancestors came from elsewhere. What's wrong with celebrating that!!

I don't have a problem with cultural parades. We should all appreciate our culture. I don't find them racist at all.
I don't think all girls/all bous schools are necessarily discriminatory. There are people who believe this is a better approach to education and isn't meant to be exclusionary, but to provide a different environment, like a religious school, or like the hippie school I went to

Its not a parade...but there is a festivle called the San Genero fest...isn't that to celebrate Italian heritage?

Columbus Day Parade is seen by a lot of Italians as a celebration in honor of their hertiage. Plus, there are a bunch of feasts...Feast of San Gernerro which is based in Italian heritage.
Feast of San Gernerro is celebrated by everyone. I am an italian and go every year however I am not sure this is the same as a the st. patrick day parade, and the puerto rican day parade
Did an Italian get "kicked out" of the St Paddy's day parade? NOPE! I have italian family who have gone to the parade with me..they are not discriminated against and kicked off hte parade route

You are right in the fact that parades are a clebration I strongly Agree but would you consider that segregating ?
And as Far as the kkk it was truly disgusting what happened what they did was horrible and morally incorrect but do they have a right to have a parade?

There are public schools in NYC that are all girls or all boys. I suppose if a boy wanted to attend an all girls school, he could but he'd have to meet the admission standards.

I don't think a parade is segregating so long as anyone who wants to is allowed to march in it. As much as I'd love the government to prevent the kkk from marching, they have a right to parades and rallies so long as they are peaceful.

This came up a few years ago with the KKK. I think they were refused a permit.
I don't think voluntary segregation is discriminatory. If someone chooses to march in the columbus day parade, or someone joins a jewish youth group, or lives in china town. We align ourselves with others like us all the time, with similar interests and backgrounds. As a silly example.Even on LIF and LIW there's a segregation. People who are more focused on planning a wedding are more at home on LIW. it doesn't make LIW discriminatory against people who are not getting married.
Or a religious school. It's not discriinatory, it's just there to create an environment suited to a particular student.

Actually, you are absolutely wrong. The National Puerto Rican Day (since 1995, when it went national) parade has become a parade for ALL. Yes, since 1958 it has been the "Puerto Rican Day Parade" but people of many cultures...especially other Hispanics...attend and enjoy the parade. And have done so for years!
Again...Puerto Rican's ARE mixed...ALL OF THEM...are Black (African), White (Spaniard) and Indian (Taino). So how could anyone be excluded?

No, I know, I was just saying that in response to what Pumpkin said. I wouldn't think that legally you could have a pubically funded single sex school - though based on what someone else said about the all boy schools in the inner city - maybe you can? (I'm asking, I have no idea if they are private or not.)

He could, but only if he was meeting the admission standards, and these all-boy and all-girl schools are fairly selective. If he was a girl and didn't have the grades it would probably not matter if he was male or female.

The lynching aren't not around because the KKK has gotten less discriminatory, the laws have made it impossible for them to get away with them anymore.
Having a white parade and being a racist murderous organization are two different things.
Having a white parade isnt necessarily racist, although it kind of wouldn't make sense because as someone else said, there are so many culture emcompassed by "white".

I don't think either are discriminatory. All girls/boys schools are private and it's ridiculous to compare all girls/boys schools to schools separated by race IMO. I think the reason parents put their kids in schools with kids that are of the same gender is so that they won't be distracted by lust. I guess in the case of gay kids attending those schools, well I guess that theory doesn't apply.  Celebrating your culture at your parade is the farthest thing from discriminatory. Like others have said, it's a celebration of heritage.
ETA: Disallowing such a parade from taking place would be discriminatory IMO.

Utterly disgusting and sick. I think that their sentencing should be much harsher. 
I do not tolerate any kind of hate crime at all. It is very disgusting and sick.
