Kristen...that's the thing with me quoting myself. What's "white" See, the United Negro College Fund and The Miss Black America pageant celebrate those of African American heritage...so they trace their roots to Africa.

IMO-It's not the fact that they are celebrating " being white" but they are stating they are the superior race. That's the problem.

Out of line in your opinion. My comment was based on the fact that life is life. Life is what you make it, and you cannot depend on anyone else in this world to make your life better but YOURSELF. I dont expect restitution from people who have hurt me, or done me wrong in the past. Life goes on. You move past it.





Life does go on but I will do what is my power and stand for what I believe in, not only for me but for my daughter who is all sense of the word an AMERICAN. Who shall not be looked down on by the color of her skin. I'm not expecting restitution or praise because this si what I see is right for me.

Yeah, but isn't saying African American the same as saying "white". Africa is a large continent, and not everyone of African descent was from the same area. So isn't it the same as white, since the continent of Europe is where all the "white" people are? Maybe white people should say "European American", and it would be the same thing.

Seriously, I get it...it's sickening, but I get it. And I guess unless you've been victimized or discriminated against you can't ever understand...even if you have"'friends" of another race. So I'll continue working twice as hard as a "regular" person and proving that being Hispanic is NOT an impediment. It does not make me stupid. Quite the contrary.

And Sonia...don't stop - ever - showing your daughter pride, respect and tolerance. Maybe the future will accomplish what our generation couldn't. Parents hold the key!!

I am so appalled at the ignorance that some people are showing on this post. I am a Black West Indian female who is quite saddened by the fact that here in 2006 people are still ignorant of others because of the color of their skin. This goes to show that racism is still a problem here in US. Nothing is wrong with people celebrating their heritage by participating in parades it is a matter of embracing ones culture and heritage. Something is definitely wrong with people who want to use a parade or a march to discriminate against certain group of people. It easy for some people to say get over slavery and racism but it is not something that can be eradicated just like that when you have people who are still hating against people just because of the skin color and also teaching their kids to be prejudice against a certain group of people.

Lets get one thing straight first. My mother never promised me a pony. I was using that as a sugue into MY beliefs.

My brother is a Gay white male. My brothers partner happens to be a Gay Puerto Rican male. They have been the target of hate crimes, abuse, badgering, and so on. Some people believe being gay is a choice, some dont. My opinion, is my brother, being white, because of his sexual preference, has been the target of bigtotry, and predjudice.

Does this pale in comparison to what the American Indians have gone through, the African American slaves, whose women were beaten and raped by the white man? YES. It does. People are ignorant, and this world is NEVER going to be a perfect place where we all live in harmony, which the god's honest truth is, I pray for that every night.

I am kind of all over the place here, but I do have a point, so read on.

What happened years ago is the past. It is STILL being used as a scapegoat for the way people TODAY, treat those of african american descent. We have to live in the NOW.

And the poster who said that things that have happened to me in the past do not compare to slavery, you have no IDEA what I have been through in my life. Yes, Slavery is a HUGE issue, but my point is that, if everyone who wronged you, should pay restitution to you, then we would all be pretty lucky, NO?

There are morons who are white, black, hispanic, etc.

My point is, if we can never, ever get past the past, we have no future. We will never EVER be able to live in peace and harmony. I will never forget the day my girlfriend Aria and I were at the beach, and some big italian guy called her the N word, and asked her, "Why the F do you even lay out, you dont need any color"? I was so completely appalled, that I actually APOLOGIZED for him, to her. I didnt need to do that, but I felt responsible for what someone who has the same color skin as I do, did to someone who they felt was inferior, or different.


I am sorry if I offended anyone. The pony thing was my way of expressing myself, and I apologize for those who thought it was tacky. My personality is quite different from most.

And Sasha, I stand corrected. I am glad you posted the information you did regarding the UNCF, and Miss Black America. I learned something today.

I hate using the terms "black" "white", etc. My DH is Middle Eastern and if someone called him brown I'd be very upset. We've been victims of racism and discrimination before. In my life the only time I've experienced it was after we started dating. At Eisenhower Park people would move their kids away from our kids! One of the moments I'' never forget is when we were looking for an apartment. I looked by myself, told the woman I loved it and wanted it (It was in Holtsville). I gave her our names. In the car I got a call from her. She wanted to know how "dark" DH's skin was. Not because she was racist or anything, but because her neighbors were. Sorry for rambling.
