Spinoff to bringing your own food to someone's house...

How about when someone asks to bring their dogs with them?

We are having a bar-b-que tomorrow for MIL's birthday. She invited one of her best friends who called us today to ask if she could bring her 2 small dogs with her.

We don't have dogs, we have a cat. And what happens if it rains and we have go go inside? I'm not letting 2 dogs in my house.

What are your thoughts on this?

I love animals! I love dogs actually.

But for the friend of your MIL to ask if she can bring her 2 small dogs to your house........is a bit on the ballsy side.....

I'd be annoyed. Especially if it does rain.......what are you going to do?? That's really not fair to you.

I don't see anything wrong with asking, just say no if you don't feel comfortable.

I guess there is something wrong with me though - I see nothing wrong with asking to bring a pet and yet, I think it is horrible to ask if you can bring your own food! Go figure. Chat Icon Chat Icon

That's funny... I think there's nothing wrong with asking to bring your own food but I am completely thrown by asking to bring 2 dogs. Especially since we have an 11 month old.. just one more thing to have to watch. .. and I am a complete animal lover too! I would just never ask to bring a pet to someone's house.

I personally would say no unless I knew for sure we would be outside. I have a cat and he would go nuts if he saw a dog in HIS house.Chat Icon

If u don't feel comfortable with a dog at ur house just politely say no.

We are dog people and all well behaved dogs are welcome at our house anytime. Unless I was pretty sure someone was comfortable with it I wouldn't ask. I wouldn't ask if they didn't have dogs.

i think its rude to ask, personally.
unless its a guaranteed outdoor party and the dogs are small and can be held.

(like my sister's little cute dogs whom i love) but anyone else that asks me, im against it

ask away.

if I invite you to my home...you can make just about any request. I reserve the right to say no...but I wouldn't get pissy b/c you asked me.

Even if they are small, they gotta poop, no? I would never think about asking if I can bring something that produces poop on grass to someone else's party Chat Icon

I think that is strange too-dogs are much more of an imposition that some extra food. And I have 2 dogs!

I would say no.
I had something similar happen to me once. Our apartment building and there is a no pet rule. (I'm a dog lover)

We were having friends over for dinner and they asked us if they could bring their tea cup maltese. I told them about the rules, and their response was "the dog doesn't bark"

I told them I was sorry and I hoped that they were still coming to dinner.

People can be pretty nervy sometimes.

That is ballsy, especially if you or someone within your family has pet allergies. There is no way I would allow someone to come with pets. My boyfriend is allergic and so is his family.

I think its nice that they ASK but I don;t think its a great idea.

We have family that shows up with there very sweet and cute, but 120lb out of control chocolate lab to anything that involves outside bbq's at our house. Its soooo fustrating. my dog(hes a pug) gets stepped on and they dont ever watch there dog, so he eats right off the tableChat Icon

so I guess I would be greatful if they would just ask. the funny part is MIL has tried to tell them nicely to leave him behind and then they get mad and dont come over.

i think it is ballsy that they asked considering it is not someone that you personally invited,it is your MIL's friend, whom i'm sure you know but still you didn't invite her your MIL did,
don't feel bad saying no
