Spinoff to Buying wine/ in supermarkets

Do not want to start any debate, but i would llike to see percentage of people that would buy wine in say, walmart or supermarket, if it became available in NY.

No.

Than again DH & I are wine drinkers, so I don't believe that a supermarket or Walmart is going to be catering to our wine taste buds.

Same here. I appreciate the expertise of the wine store owners and doubt King Kullen is going to carry my preferred sancerre...

Re: Spinoff to Buying wine/ in supermarkets

If they had the wine I was looking for and I was already in there, yeah.

It's not like the supermarket is going to carry a huge selection of wines, nothing even close to what an actual liquor store would have.

Only in a pinch. I buy a lot of kosher wine for holidays, which I'm sure the supermarkets won't have (and yes, there are some excellent kosher wines, I'm not talking Concord Grape Manishewitz here). Also, I like a lot of LI wines, which I doubt the big chains will have.

In Florida where my parents have a place Publics has a great wine seclection...a full liquor store section--their wine is identical to that in NY wine/liqour stores I was Chat Icon when I saw it!

only in an emergency.

DH owns a small business, so we REALLY make an effort to support other local businesses as long as we can afford to!

DH is better than me though, he will go to 4 or 5 stores instead of just stopping at a supermarket or some other huge store. I am a little more on the lazy side LOL

LOL...I like it too, but we also change it up with some Bartenura Pinot Grigio or Moscato at my parents' seder. So not traditional, but yummy!

I voted no.
Like I said in the other thread, I enjoy going to a liquor store.
I find it to be a nice experience.

Re: Spinoff to Buying wine/ in supermarkets

They sell wine in the supermarkets in Virginia. Some of the stores have a small selection. Others have full blown departments (like Wegmans) with a wine bar in the store. Totally depends.

Re: Spinoff to Buying wine/ in supermarkets

I just feel that the ability to do this is NOT a New York thing.

that is the fodder of suburbs and strip malls, and since my primary home is in NYC (which would sadly have to follow the rules of the rest of the state) it would just continue to homogenize neighborhoods across the state.

how BORING convenience is!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Spinoff to Buying wine/ in supermarkets

Unlikely. There is a liquor store across the street from my house and the people who own it are really nice. I have no incentive to buy from the supermarket since it's actually LESS convenient for us.

Yes, yes, yes!

I HATE that we can't get Trader Joe's "Two Buck Chuck" here in NY. I have seen beautiful wine sections in supermarkets out of state and would love to be able to pick it up there!
