Spinoff to salary thread

FH and I are definetly going to struggle, neither of us make a good deal of money, I'm a Catholic school teacher and he is a graphic artist...

I was just wondering, for those of you making good money in a year... maybe over $70k or so, what kind of work do you or FH do? You don't have to say what you make, I'm just wondering if one of us should start looking into different fields of work!! Chat Icon

Re: Spinoff to salary thread

we don't make that salary combined down here in GA, but in NY we were making $65,000 together....DH was a retail manager of a video game store and I was an inside sales/customer service rep at a manufacturers' rep firm in Islandia making a little over $30

I am approaching that amount on my own, but I have been in the NYC schools for almost ten years, I have my master's plus 30 and I do overtime work and summer school. I would have made more if I'd left to go to the suburbs.

DH makes less than I do; he teaches at the college level. But if he were to go into the private sector he would outearn me by a lot.

DH and I both work for a large consulting firm. We do all sorts of IT related work.
I didn't start making over $70K until I was about 33 though.

Re: Spinoff to salary thread

I was a catholic school teacher, I just left my school 3 weeks ago and will not be going back there to teach. DH is a manager at Rockaway Bedding...we made about 100K this year....

Makes me sick that I went to college for so many years and he is getting paid more than me!

One salary

Knocks me out...LOL

We make ( I have no shame...Chat Icon ) about $75-85K a year, depending on Over time and investments.

We dont make NEARLY enough to live comfortably on LI in my mind.

Its sad because we'd be rich to people in other parts of the country, but then again the starting salary at my job now is 30K, in Florida ( same job, same company) its $21K...BIG difference...

So I think to make money and be "well enough off" you have to find a field where the salary is equal in different parts of the country.

I'm in school for my Masters in Social work....I could make any where from $35 K-75K after graduateion..IT all depends on WHERE you work...

I think from my friends and family, I have seen the largest salaries in IT work, Contracting, and Union jobs.. I know a 25 yr old who makes over 100K as a plumber for NYC!

I make that. I teach high school. I paid my dues in Cathoic school for three years and would have had to leave teaching because I couldn't afford to stay att that job. Luckily, I now teach in public school.

Yes, I make that but that's at Master's plus 60 credits and I've been teaching for 11 years.

Oh, I'm in the second lowest paying district in Nassau. I would be making at least 10% more anywhere else.

FH is is advertising sales and makes more than me.

i'll be starting around that when i finish my nursing degree... but more for nightime differential or OT if i opt for it (which i may do to put some more $$$ away before we start making babies Chat Icon ). The good thing about nursing though is that in most parts of the US, salaries are pretty similar (it differs from hospital to hospital, but still very good salaries in other states- which we plan to move out of state when my program is over). Re: Spinoff to salary thread

Well I'm in VA, but when we move up nears DC in 2 years, and we're both hopefully working, we should be making about $86,000 - me a teacher with a masters, and him a school psychologist.

If we decide to stay here in Harrisonburg, we'd probably be making around $77,000 or so.

We'd probably make a lot more in NY... if we could actually find jobs Chat Icon

Well, I can certainly relate to that!
I'm a teacher and is a graphic artist.
Sure, we're both thrilled to be doing what we love....but there's not much money in either profession !!
