i agree too.
we have debated this topic ad nauseum. all BF vs FF threads invariably degenerate into the same discussion, which ends in misunderstandings, misinterpretations, and hurt feelings.
i don't mean to target you individually. i'm expressing frustration in general at all of these threads over the last couple days.
You took the words right out of my mouth. PLEASE just do what is right for you!! As long as those babies have a full belly at the end of the day, whether it is BM or formula, then that is ALL that matters. To each his own. We're here to help each other, not to debate each other.

Or even -- do you think breastfeeding is heavily promoted? For all the groaning about "pressure" to breastfeed well over 70% of babies are on formula by 6 months. Bottle-feeding is sill the norm -- you see babies and bottles everywhere, but rarely see a breastfeeding mom.
I think that many more mom's breastfeed in the hospital and for the first couple of weeks. I actually just looked up the statistic and 70% of women initiate breastfeeding, but as you said by 6 months that number drops to 30%.
Now I think many women stop breastfeeding early on because it is very difficult. Some women are in pain, some cannot produce milk, sometimes the baby will not latch on, etc... Then of course there is the fact that many women work. I have never pumped at work, but from my friends and posts on here it seems so difficult to do. I mean when I pumped at home I hated it. I cannot even imagine doing at work. Breastfeeding is very demanding on t e women and when is becomes too difficult women, including myself, turn to formula because they know it is a healthy alternative.

I think because the extra push is necessary to give it a try.
Even though its "natural" I felt like a nut the first time I asked the L&D nurse to give me baby ASAP to put him on the boob. I did not know what I was going to do with this kid on there, how it would feel, if it would even work...how DH and I were both going to feel about me ripping my boob out with an agenda to stick it in my baby's mouth.
Without all the support and research, I doubt 70% would even try it.
I think its great to get the word out there that mother's bodies benefit from it as far as cancer goes. That part of the process amazes me.
I actually wish they would do more promoting with the fact that if your baby has an allergy, all you have to do is change your diet around and baby will be fine.
