Are you afraid to fly??

IF you are does it stop you from flying?

Was there a certain time in your life when you started to?



I am afraid to fly but it doesn't stop me.. I used to never be but as I get older I get more scared to do things

My hands sweat and I have an anxiety attack , but I LOVE to travel so it won't stop me !!

I hate flying, especially take off & landing, once in the air, I'm OK. I honestly try to avoid flying if at all possible, but I'll do it in the sake of having a great vacation I wish I didn't have this fear

I am not afraid, but I don't enjoy it. As a kid it was an adventure. As an adult, it is no longer an adventure and not as simple as just picking up and going someplace. I agree that each and every post 9-11 precaution should and must be taken, I just wish it didnt have to be that way.

I used to be terrified of flying. But I got an opportunity my senior year of high school to go on a trip that would involve a lot of flying but be a life-changing experience, so I did it anyway. With a lot of valium and a few more trips I learned to not be afraid. Now I just get antsy after a few hours, but if I have stuff to keep me entertained I'm fine.

I am exactly the same. Mostly it started after 9/11 although I don't worry about highjackings more mechanical problems or pilot error I will not let it stop me from flying but then I also think...is this just nerves or intuition?

I don't think I would say I am scared of flying, more like uneasy. I don't like take off...
Now my DH is Terrified!!!!!!
But, we still travel.

I'm scared to fly, that's why I make it a point to fly every couple of months. The more time that goes by in between flights, the worse I am the next time I do get on a plane. I can never become one of those people that don't go anywhere because of the fear. I love Europe and the caribbean too much!

I think my fear has been magnified by an emergency landing we had to make on a Delta flight many years ago. The pilot was not exactly reassuring in his announcement and when we landed there was emergency equipment lining the runway. We were delayed for like six hours and then had to get back on the same plane. Not fun!

i love take off... HATE landing. i always get nervous and squeeze the crap out of DHs hand but, i'm not afraid of flying, overall.

Absolutely terrified and will not fly at all. The only thing that would get my up in a plane is a family emergency and that needs to be a doozy. I've only flown once and I hated it.

I used to be terrified of flying, but then I had to do it more and more. Now, I'm just a nervous flyer...but, I can do it and keep myself occupied without a problem.

The older I get, the worse my fear of flying has become. I still fly but not unless Im medicated well!

I spent half my life on an airplane, it seems. My Dad was a Captain for American Airlines and my Mom was a Flight Attendant - it never even crossed my mind to be scared.

I love flying, but, Im not too comfortable with take off and the ear popping bothers me A LOT when landing.

I don't love it, but I am not afraid. The reason I don't love it is because I tend to get anxious and it gets uncomfortable being on a plane and having anxiety. I am more anxious about whether I will be able to use the bathroom when I need to (silly) then the plane God forbid crashing...

It never really bothered me. I flew a little less than one week after 9/11 when I lived in LA and was desperate to get home. There were 10 of us on the plane. I think I was more upset about the fact that I kept thinking of the people who died and how they were just like me, it really shook me (I puked in the bathroom right before I boarded) but that was it...I wasn't really scared about the flying.

I have flown a lot for business, so it never fazed me.

Not afraid at all. DH is white-knuckled afriad to fly.

I don't like to fly but that doesn't stop me from flying. I don't like flying for 2 reasons...

1. It's not natural.

2. I know I'm OK, and I know whoever I'm traveling with is OK... I don't know that everyone around me is OK. And I don't mean like, they're going to hijack the plane or something... I mean, like are they going to puke on the plane or is there going to be a medical emergency. I know that's so wierd, but it's my thing about flying.

I absolutely HATE TO FLY! AS soon as we get in the air my mind is all over the place. I keep thinking what is keeping this thing up here..I hate that I feel like this but I cannot help it

I quite enjoy flying...I always listen to the flight attendants making plans for their evenings and talking about what they are going to make their kids for dinner...I find that reassuring.

I used to love flying and had no fear. Then we had a bad experience on the way home from our honeymoon in Hawaii. The plane hit an air pocket and dropped followed by some severe turbulance. It only lasted a few minutes but it was enough to make me completly freaked out when I fly. Although I still do, becuase I refuse to let the fear ruin a good vacation!
