Just curious as I didnt realize it varied I thought all of LI was the same.,....

Not on LI, but the cut off down here is Sept 1st! DD will be the youngest in her class as an August baby. I had no idea until my friend became a teacher down here.

I think Smithtown is 12/31 and my son is 12/7. But as a teacher I will NOT enroll him in Kindergarten as a 4 year old. It has been my experience that the late birthdays (especially boys) struggle most. So he will be the older kid in his grade instead.

I would say most districts have a Dec 1st cut off. Personally, I'm holding DS back a year (he was born in Oct) b/c my experience as an elementary teacher was that all Fall babies (esp boys) that were sent in at the age of 4 are really lagging in social, developmental, and academic abilities. It sticks with them for YEARS. Plus, DS will be the oldest in the grade which will be GREAT when he is in HS playing sports! He'll have such an advantage!

Rocky Point - Dec 1
Genevieve just makes it - shes a late November baby. I'm sending her and not holding her back. I was also a late Nov baby and was in half accelerated classes (2nd youngest in my grade) So she will be 4 for about 2 1/2 months of K

I am pretty sure the NYS cut-off date is Dec 1st. I do think however some schools can decide on the 31st.
