Spinoff: would your DH SAH?
Those of you who said there is always a way to SAH, and it is best for your family for your DH to work multiple jobs if needed so you can SAH, what if you were the one with the bigger paycheck and you could afford for your DH to SAH and still live comfortably but he would have to work 2 or 3 jobs for you to SAH? Would your DH SAH? Would you work? I have many friends who outearn their husbands, some by a lot, although only one has a child.

Re: Spinoff: would your DH SAH?
Now that mine are older, not nursing, can tell him what they need...yes, i think he would make a great stay at home dad.
this weekend he took them to a soccer game, a fair, pony rides, playdate....he has really learned to enjoy them.
I loved working. I love staying at home.
I think he would add a different energy to the house then I do. He is much more laid back. Does more projects with them. I spend my days trying to find ways to get us out of the house and into the world.

Re: Spinoff: would your DH SAH?
My DH would stay home and we are almost at the point he could and we could live on my salary. We could survive with some cuts on my salary now but we choose to have a cushion

If it made financial sense I think he would - but I don't know if he would actually want to.

Re: Spinoff: would your DH SAH?
That was not our situation. However I can say that my DH would never stay home in a million, billion, bajillion years. He would rather work 10 jobs while I SAH. My DH is a wonderful father, but I am truly not exaggerating by speaking for him in this scenario.

exactly....when dh and i discussed this topic prior to having kids..we knew i would be the one because i made peanuts and he always really worked two jobs anyway so it wouldn't really be much of change in that way for him.......and to us, it wasn't about who stayed home it was the point that we agreed that we wanted one of us to do it because it was verrrrrry important to us.....only thing is like headoverheels wrote i don't think he would want to, if this was the case, he would probably take on THREE jobs so he would make more than me and I would have to stay home

Re: Spinoff: would your DH SAH?
My DH seems to like the idea. Now that I brought it up, he wants me to find a way to earn more money! Seriously though, he would love to be home with our (not yet born) children. He doesn't do much cooking and cleaning now, but he says that he would start.

Re: Spinoff: would your DH SAH?
DH WAH so he is around a lot. While he would love to be a SAHD and would be great at it. If he isn't working, he wants to be golfing (professionally), so the whole SAHD goes out the window.

I earn the bigger paycheck and we actually did consider this at one point. DH thinks he would love to be a SAHD, but the reality is he wouldn't be able to.

Re: Spinoff: would your DH SAH?
Not in a million years.. I have asked him about it and he said "no way"...he makes double the money I do so financially it would not work.
He would spoil the kids rotten and not set any boundaries. He would burn them out by about day 3...taking them places, feeding them junk food etc etc....he is high energy for a few hours and then he crashes so it wouldn't be good PLUS the house would be a complete mosh pit every day.
I am breaking out in hives just thinking about it

Re: Spinoff: would your DH SAH?
I am a SAHM and we live comfortably on his salary alone (he only has 1 job). DH has said that were I to go back to work and make more than him, he would definitely want to quit to be a SAHD. He would be excellent at it. He is wonderful with DS (2.5) and always has been, from the newborn stage when he stayed with DS alone for 2 days (DS was 6 days old) bc I was readmitted to the hospital.
ETA: DH gets so much done when he's home alone with DS, me, not so much. I'm sure our house would be cleaner and more organized.

Re: Spinoff: would your DH SAH?
I think he would, if we didn't need both incomes. He SAH with her on his off days when they are Mon-Fri. He's with her between 2 and 4 days per week depending on his schedule.

Exactly this. He loves being with the kids, but, at the same time, I think he likes going to work.

Re: Spinoff: would your DH SAH?
He would love it! He even had an opportunity at it when he was between jobs and for those few months, he stayed home and I went to work FT.
Luckily, for me, it lasted only 3 months. Not only did I work FT, but I came home to having to make dinner, clean house, do laundry, help with HW, etc.... DH can only handle the kids... and if they were at school or napping, he was out playing landscaper in the yard.

Re: Spinoff: would your DH SAH?
He is off 14 weeks a year & is great when it happens but long-term, no.
It would change the dynamic of our relationship & household in ways neither of us would be comfortable (not speaking financially) if one of us stayed at home .

Re: Spinoff: would your DH SAH?
Definitely. I love being home with DC (most of the time... ), and I would be able to stay more than busy with all of the housework/yardwork, projects around the house.

Re: Spinoff: would your DH SAH?
If I made more money & we had our 2 kids, then heck yes I would want him to stay home with them. I would get a break by only going to work while he delt with toddler meltdowns, infant not sleeping, cleaning the house, & cooking. Don't know if he would do it though.

Re: Spinoff: would your DH SAH?
I bet my DH would love to stay home! But only if cleaning, cooking and child rearing didn't interfere with working on his truck or his woodworking
Seriously though, I could see him being a PTSAHD when the kids got older, just not in the newborn stage, but he'd have a side business to bring in income.

Re: Spinoff: would your DH SAH?
My DH couldn't do it full time. My mom used to babysit for me on Thursdays, but since my dad was in the hospital, she hasn't been able to do it anymore. So DH has been working from home on Thursdays since February. I don't leave until 1pm for work and I put my little one down for a nap right before I leave. So he basically has to get older DS off the bus at 3:30, around when the nap ends, and then watch them for 3 hours. He's been telling me he can't do it much longer, it's stressing him out.

This, word for word! I think DH would LOVE to spend all day with the kids. He would picture himself just chilling in the living room playing Wii with them, walking down to the playground, running around the backyard. He would love that. What would completely send him over the edge is when he realizes that you also have to manage cooking, cleaning, errands, laundry and bills... all while having small children underfoot and making sure they are entertained and safe, oh and managing school/activities/playdates for the older one too!
So... no, he would never in a million years do this job.
