SPR - Keratosis Pilaris (KP)
does anyone have a LO with this??
I've dealt with it for as long as I can remember. I remember being so embarressed as a teen because of it (I have it on my upper arms/legs)
I think DD is developing it now The skin on her forearms and shins has become bumpy, and now I think it's starting on her FACE
Can anyone suggest any good moisturizers that work well with KP that are safe 1. for a baby, and 2. for the face?
I know the best treatment is to keep her skin hydrated but it's tough

Ds has it. I took him to a ped derm last year...he is on a script lotion but really nothing does too much. I find with DS it is worse in the hot summer months. And the more I mosturize the better! but I can't find anything that really clears it up.
He has it on his arms, (basically shoulder to wrist) and butt and thighs.

Is that when the skin is bumpy, almost like you have the chills? If so, both my 2 have it, DS has it more.
The creams that I have found that help if you use it every night are the following: Gentle naturals Eczema cream Gold Bond, I like the shea butter one Curel continuos care ( I have been using this for a few months now)
I like the Curel the best because it is very moisturizing without being heavy. I also have dry skin and this has really helped with that.
I am not really a fan of baby creams, the only I used on my kids were Aveeno and even that didn't seem to help.
I also switched to Dove moisture body wash. I started using that around 1.

My DS has it. It has improved a lot over the past 6 months. Started when he was about a year old.
I use Aveeno body wash only with him- it is great for his skin.
I also got Eucerin cream to put on it right after a bath.
Derm recommended Impruv lotion, ordered it from Amazon. This stuff is the best- just have to get my 2 year old to sit still so I can slather him with it!

Re: SPR - Keratosis Pilaris (KP)
I have had it since I was pre-teen age, Ds had it all over his face bad, arms and legs. Nothing I have ever done for myself or DS has worked, but around 2 1/2 he outgrew it, on his face at least. I recently read about Cervae and tried the soap and cream and no results so far. My arms and upper legs flair up really bad after giving birth. So far no signs of it on DD. (Knock wood)
At the suggestion of my Ped and Ped derm I have tried Dove bar soap Eucerin cream Aveeno cream wash Lachydrin Lachyrin 5 Cervae (on me not DS) And 2 or 3 other creams that I don't remember.
Honestly leaving it be was the best thing to do....it hasgotten much better and is gone on his face which was my main concern. I know its upsetting

christine, the flair after giving birth is caused by the same reason as why our hair falls out like crazy! it all has to do with the growth cycle of hair. hair doesnt fall out while pregnant so new hair isnt coming in to cause KP. with KP, layers of skin and pores do not align so hair gets trapped, the hair shafts get clogged with keratin.
i wonder if laser hair removal would help? if you could stop the hair from growing, there wouldnt be a problem anymore right? obviously not ok for children but maybe adults?

I've got it, and I'm pretty sure DS has it too. He doesn't have the bumps yet, but his legs and arms get SO red. We've just been using Lubriderm lotion and Aveeno in the tub.

Re: SPR - Keratosis Pilaris (KP)
My DD#2 has it - I was told to pretty much leave it alone - it got pretty bad for about 2 months in the summer and now it is getting better - not gone but MUCH better where it no longer bothers me to feel or look at it. I will bump my thread a lot of the moms gave me really good advice. I tried some of the lotions they recommended and it did get better but it seems like now that summer and the heat are going away it slowly looks a little better.

Re: SPR - Keratosis Pilaris (KP)
The ped derm we saw recommended amlactin 12% lotion. It is over the counter but you might have to ask for it from the pharmacist. I get it at costco. I usually use aquaphor on his face. It has definitely gotten better as he has gotten older.
