Sterilizing Bottles and Pacifiers
What do you use - sterilizer, boiled water, dishwasher? If you use a sterilizer, can you tell me if you know which one fits the Playtex Ventaire bottles? I think that the one I registered for is no longer available?
Do you feel that you need a sterilizer?
Thanks!

Re: Sterilizing Bottles and Pacifiers
I have a sterilizer but never used it. I run the bottles and everything through the dishwasher and usually every other day I boil all the parts (I use Dr. Browns...1,000,000 parts), along with pacis, nasal aspirator, etc.

Miki, I use the Playtex Ventaire bottles and pop them in the dishwasher. For the small pieces I put them in one of those dishwasher baskets they sell at BRU. I have a sterilizer button on my DW.

Re: Sterilizing Bottles and Pacifiers
I sterilize the bottles in a big pot of boiling water before the first use.
Basically they now get thrown in the dishwasher every night.
Pacifiers I sterilize in those Medela bags that are used for Breast Pump Parts. So easy and quick, just throw it in the microwave

Re: Sterilizing Bottles and Pacifiers
I boil water in a pot & toss everything that fits in. But if you have a dishwasher, I hear there's some sort of sterilization setting that does the trick. I honestly don't think a separate sterilizer is necessary.

Re: Sterilizing Bottles and Pacifiers
when i first open them up, i ran them through the dishwasher. then after using them i wash them with soap and water and every other day i use the munchin microwaveable sterilizer bags and sterilize the whole lot of them.
i woudlnt get a sterilizer. those microwave bags are great...it says they can be used 20 times before tossing. they come 6 to a box for a couple of dollars.

Re: Sterilizing Bottles and Pacifiers
I sterilized the bottles and pacifiers before the first use and then for maybe a month in the dishwasher. I don't anymore.

Re: Sterilizing Bottles and Pacifiers
I'm being told that I have to sterilize everyday? I am definitely not running a dishwasher every day! Or, is it ok to sterilize initially and then is washing in hot water enough? Same for the pacifiers?

u do not need to sterilize every day. soap and hot water is fine. i would certainly sterilize them out of the package, but after using them, washing is fine.

As soon as anything touches the air, it's no longer sterile, so don't go overboard "sterilizing" everything. Just clean it well (dishwasher, hot water, etc)

Who is telling you this?
My ped told me babies are not sterile. As long as you wash everythign in hot soapy water, it will be ok. I am a germaphobe here and I have always done that, since I used latex nipples that could not be reboiled or put in a dishwasher. So i was forced to NOT be able to sterile and it all worked out anyway.

I sterilized everything initially by boiling them in hot water. After that, I just used how water and soap.

Re: Sterilizing Bottles and Pacifiers
i sterilize every time i wash - but that's just my preference. i don't have a dishwasher and it takes 90 seconds in the munchkin sterilizer bags I use.
they fit the playtex bottles nicely - you can do 4 bottles at a time (not including tops/nipples, etc).

If I do boil in hot water - how long do you boil for - don't want to ruin any nipples or pacifiers!

I toss everything into a big pot and let it boil for 5 minutes. I do this when I first get a product. I used to also do this every day but now I do it 2/3 days a week.

I use these for the dr. browns bottles i use. I can fit 3 of the 4oz bottles and the parts.
