Sugar water for constipated newborn?
My BF 3 week old is having issues with bowel movements due to the high dose of Iron supplements that I am on. The receptionist at the doctors office told me to give him 2oz of sugar water 2x a day. Has anyone heard of this? Im so nervous about giving him water at such a young age. Im sure its ok if the doctors office instructed me to do it but I just wanted to hear if anyone else, in fact, has given their newborn sugar water for constipation.

This is one of the things our ped had us try with DS too. She had us put 4 tsp of brown sugar in 4 oz of water. She said molasses would be good also.

I've never heard of this. I heard no water for the first few months.
Did you try the "thermometer" trick? Maybe rub her belly and do leg exercises. It usually works

I was told to put 1 tsp of karo syrup in his bottle but i wasn't BF. Do you ever put BM in a bottle? I only had to do it once per day and now i only use 1/4 tsp. I too heard no water for the 1st 6 months.

Re: Sugar water for constipated newborn?
The nurses at my pediatrician's office recommend sugar water.
However, two different Doctors in the same practice suggested 2 oz of apple juice, and then when he was older they suggested prune juice.
I never did the sugar water (but was told brown sugar was better).

We did sugar water when DD was constipated. I don't remember what the ratio was that the ped told us though.
