Re: Teaching your child ignorance
First off congrats on your weight loss, that is really something to be proud of.
That woman was a complete ***
You are a bigger person than me as I would have told her off.

Re: Teaching your child ignorance
Wow! What a disgusting person! I'm sure she could have found a better way to bribe her kids into eating organic than degrating someone else. It saddens me that there are still people like this woman in this world. And she is raising a whole new generation of insensitive ignorant people to boot. I'm speechless.
Congrats on the weight loss!

Re: Teaching your child ignorance
That is absolutely sickening, and I'm sorry you had to experience something like that. If I was standing nearby and heard that, OMG God help her...But you were definitely a better person and walked away from this awful situation!
Some people are just so close minded...and to teach your children the same is even worst

Re: Teaching your child ignorance
It never ceases to amaze me how completely horrible people can be.
Congratulations on your weight loss & taking action to become healthier!
My son is being teased because DH is overweight. It is absolutely heartbreaking to hear. I told him they're right, Daddy is fat but he's a great dad. We had a long talk about how he has a dad that plays ball, goes bike riding, cooks, took us all to Adventureland at the last minute, dressed up on Halloween for the kids, makes our house creepy on Halloween, etc. That other dads don't get to spend the time with their kids that DH does. Then we talked about character & judging people by their outsides (ala Martin Luther King).
When I told DH, he asked him if he had a problem with it. Joseph said no. Then DH told him that if someone says something to tell them "I don't have a problem with it, if you do go tell him."
I've noticed it's the kids with absent fathers that are the ones doing it but it doesn't make it sting any less.
I'm sorry you had to deal with that.

OMG...How rude....I can totally relate as a plus sized gal, but I have never experienced anything like that. Seriously, what a b itch.
I would have tried to say something like, "Well, I won't always be fat, but you'll always be an ignorant POS"
Congrats on the weight loss!!

Re: Teaching your child ignorance
BRAVO to you on so many accounts!!
First, CONGRATULATIONS on your weight loss!! What an amazing accomplishment!
Second, you truly showed poise and grace in that situation. Instead of stooping to her level, you walked away. Hopefully that woman's poor children will learn from you how to treat people and not from their POS mother. Some people are so truly miserable it oozes from them. These people often feel the need to make others as miserable as they are. Luckily for you (not for her) you did not stoop to her level.
I think I would have beaten her senseless.

OMG. I can't believe people. What an idiot. I don't know what I would have done in that situation. Not only is she rude but she is wrong.. organic food doesn't make you thin. You can eat organic cookies all day long and be overweight.
Congratulations on your weight loss!!

Re: Teaching your child ignorance
whoa ---
First, GREAT JOB!!!
I think I would have clammed up too. But then I think I would have found the woman and said something. Or I would have ran to my car and cried. How despicable this woman is.
A few weeks ago I was picking up my son at daycare. I was putting him in the car and the woman parked next to me was telling her son to wait his turn until I was done because they couldn't open their door until mine was closed.
So I finished quickly. The kid said to me "You're fat"
I quickly responded "thank you" very sarcastically and had to refrain myself from saying "you're ugly" but really that is just because my feelings were hurt. I would never say something like that to anyone, let alone a child.
The mother did offer a swift recovery. She tried to play it off like the kid said "you're fast" but as I was pulling out I rolled my window down to hear the lady scoulding her son about not calling people fat.
I have to admit, my feelings were hurt. I didn't eat anything but brocolli that night. It's not like it comes to a surprise to me, yes, I'm fat. But the words just sting. No matter if it was from a child or an adult.
I would never make people feel bad about themselves and would really strive to make my children understand that they shouldn't do it either.
But my goodness, this wasn't even the child. It was the parent. What a disgusting woman!

Re: Teaching your child ignorance
What an idiot. I'm so sorry--I've had comments similar to that one thrown at me, and I know that feeling when your heart stops for a second as you think about what your reaction is going to be...
I think I would have directed my response to the kids..."I'm so sorry for both of you".
Congrats on the weight loss...I have to jump on that bandwagon myself!

See, that in my mind is just as bad...if my child EVER said that to someone, I'd be scolding her right away and she'd be apologizing!!
