Tempur-Pedic versus Miralux
We went to Sleepy's in Roosevelt Field Mall last night and tried both of these out. Our main concern was getting the firmness that I like for my back and the softness that DH likes for comfort. And to minimize the shaking when DH shifts positions 10 million times a night!
We tried the Tempur-Pedic first and it was... weird. I have never gone mattress shopping so I had nothing to compare it to. It just felt funny, sinking into it. When we saw the prices we both did this:
After that shock wore off, we remembered that DH's company has a deep discount available since Sleepy's is their client. But I honestly didn't know you could go up to $4k for a non-adjustable King sized mattress & boxspring.
We did try out a Miralux bed that had a pillow top on it and I have to say, it was reeeeeally comfortable. Does anyone have one of these? The two frontrunners are:
-Tempur-Pedic Rhapsody, quoted $3499.
-Miralux Platinum w/pillow top, also quoted $3499. but on "special" for $2899.
They said they had no literature on any of the mattresses for us to take with us so it's time to do research online. Thus, I'm starting with you guys.
For anyone else looking, once you start to leave, the offers of free Tempur-Pedic pillows, shipping, and taxes came out. So keep that in mind if you're going to buy.
Thanks in advance everyone!

Re: Tempur-Pedic versus Miralux
I found when i tired to purchase from Sleepy's, they were very shaddy when i mentioned I saw the matress I want, some place else for much less...(we are talking hundreds of dollors)
With the tempur pedic, we never gave it the light of day because of the cost however, we liked the technology behind it so we looked at another company called Novaform which Costco sells. For the price, it works great. I was able to sleep very easily and DW back problems were so much better after this bed.
We brought for 500 dollors or so and brought a basic box sping for 15o...

Good luck...
I never heard of the second kind of bed you mentioned

Re: Tempur-Pedic versus Miralux
I have a Miralux - no pillow top - and I love it. I have no trouble sleeping at night. I bought at Sleepy's and bargained down to about 40% off what they were advertising. There is definitely room to bargain with them.

Re: Tempur-Pedic versus Miralux
We have pillow top mattress, Tricia, and we wish we hadn't gotten it.
We've had it for 2 years now and the pillow top has created rolls in the matress.
One - it can't be flipped. Only rotated.
Two - the pillow top creates an indentation of where your body is, so after a while you get these bumps and grooves if you attempt to move to the middle, or lay on the outside.

Re: Tempur-Pedic versus Miralux
Have you tried a latex mattress? We just got one and both DH and I love it (we have very different tastes on mattresses - he likes very firm and I like soft). The latex works for us both. Its kind of like temper pedic but you don't sink in as much.

Re: Tempur-Pedic versus Miralux
Thanks for the responses so far everyone. Any advice or suggestions would be great, we're keeping all options open.
Betsy, I mentioned that to Rusty last night, that I wondered how long they last. I figure anything that is that soft is going to degrade over time and that we should do more research on it.
We're not going to rush into anything, I have a lot more research to do with memory foam, latex, springs, pillow mattresses...

Re: Tempur-Pedic versus Miralux
We got the Bob's version of Tempur Pedic - have had it for two years and are still so in love with it. In fact, I slept at my parent's the other night and it was the worst sleep and my back killed. After last night sleeping in my own bed, I am feeling great today.
We don't sink too much into it. It does retain heat a bit, but nothing too bad and lets me turn down the heat.
Also, since it wasn't crazy expensive I feel like if I wanted to replace it (which I don't), I wouldn't feel too too bad.

Re: Tempur-Pedic versus Miralux
My dh works in that Sleepys (roosevelt field) but was off yesterday. If you need any more assistance with anything please fm me and I'll ask my dh some questions about both mattresses.
I've heard of both. I've laid on the miralux. I love the fuzzy top on them!!!
Those are two totally different mattresses, different feels...one being the pillowtop which is soft and the tempur-pedic having a more firm feel.
Also, my dh tells me that tempur-pedic is price controlled, so that's why there are no specials on them.
I fm'ed you, by the way...

Re: Tempur-Pedic versus Miralux
I don't know anything about the Miralux but we have the Tempur-Pedic (still paying the damn thing off ) and love it. I did understand that there's not much that can be done about the price.

We also just got a latex bed. Went to Sleepworks. I was not thrilled at all with Sleepys.

Re: Tempur-Pedic versus Miralux
Thanks everyone. I completely forgot to check Consumer Reports. Duh! They have some great info on what you should know to buy.
Looks like I have another trip to Sleepy's in the future!

Re: Tempur-Pedic versus Miralux
We bought a pillow top and love it. It's not miralux though. i did not like the temperpedic at all when we tried it so this was like a compromise for us. I'm so glad we bought the pillow top. It is so comfortable and i really never feel it when DH moves around or gets out of bed and I am a very light sleeper.

Re: Tempur-Pedic versus Miralux
We've got the pillowtop Miralux and love it. We initially wanted a very firm bed but fell in love with this one after taking the sleep test at Sleepy's.
DH initially wanted the tempurpedic but I have a memory foam pillow and I don't really like it.
We love our bed to death and any moving around the other does cannot really be felt. HTH!
