Tenure question
Hi! Is it true that if you teach special ed and receive tenure in special ed – if you switch to General Ed you lose your tenure? And have to start over?

Re: Tenure question
Yes - you are tenured under one area, if you switch to another, gen ed, sped, ais, etc., you start over. Pay remains the same, from what I've heard, but tenure begins again

I guess it sort of makes sense to do that – but that is really unfortunate. So if I get a job in a special education classroom I most likely will never switch over to general ed.

Tenure question
It's true but now the tenure cycle is 4 years for your first tenure, and 3 if you accept a new position but are already tenured as opposed to 3/2 years as it used to be.
