I actually saw it on Dr. Phil and that show the Doctors.
I bought the book on iBooks and mulled over a bit, then finally decided to try it. I joined a Facebook group for it and there's this one woman who has lost 60 lbs since June and another guy who lost 50 lbs since May. I have about 60 lbs to lose so this is keeping me motivated. Lost another lb today Chat Icon

I assume you bought the book? Does it have recipes or sample menus in the book?

Re: The 17 day diet

I just bought the book. Do you think it will work if you DONT exercise? I have a broken foot and cannot exercise so wonder if the diet alone will work?

Yes it does have some recipes and a sample menu for each cycle (a sample for each day so you really don't get bored)

I have tried some of the recipes and they are very good.

It also has some great tips like making dips out of Greek yogurt etc. I joined the Facebook group and got a recipe or a carrot cake smoothie - very good also!

I think it would be hard to do without the book

I don't see why not, I think you maybe just won't lose as fast, worth a shot though Chat Icon

Re: The 17 day diet

I was in the book store today & was checking it out. Seems similar to the Dukan Diet but not as extreme. Lately I'm thinking the only way I'm going to lose a decent amount of weight is if I cut way down on carbs. I think there's a lot of truth to what they're saying & I need to try this, maybe after the holidays are over.

Re: The 17 day diet

My cousin did this and he has lost 70+ lbs since March. He did go off it for a bit over and summer and gained about 15lbs back, but was eating super salty foods and not exercising.

I believe he went back on it in Sept, but I haven't talked to him to see how he is doing.

Re: The 17 day diet

i lost 30 pounds on this diet and kept it off till this day.... the key is variety.. u have to come up with creative ways to eat the same foods so that you don't get bored... I actually just started up again and made the most delicious cycle one friendly chicken dish last night... not sure if you're interested, but it was so good and so easy, i HAVE to share... substitute ham for the turkey on cycle 2 and it's even better!!

thinly slice chicken breast into cutlets and season with salt and pepper
lay one slice of deli sliced turkey breast on each cutlet
sautee a chopped onion in a little olive oil and add spinach and fat free grated cheese, sautee
spread a layer of the spinach mixture on top of the turkey slices
roll each cutlet up (like a jelly roll) and secure with a toothpick
sautee the rolls in a tablespoon of olive oil, turning them over to brown all the sides
when theyve browned a bit, add white wine and scrape up the bits on the bottom of the pan
then add chicken broth and bring it to a boil.
cover the pan and simmer until the chicken is cooked all the way through
transfer the chicken to a plate and continue to cook the liquid over high heat until it's redcuded
drizzle the liquid over the chicken...

OMG delish!!

good luck with the diet and let me know if you try the recipe!!

Re: The 17 day diet

I love this diet...I was having trouble losing those last extra lbs after having my daughter and this is the only diet that worked! I got back to my pre-preganancy weight in a month! :) I would reccommend this to everyone although it is tough in the beginning giving up the carbs but it is worth it!

Re: The 17 day diet

I am about to embark on this diet tomorrow!!!! I LIVE for carbs...went to the store earlier and it was so hard to not put any carbs in the basket.

So what am I going to eat? I dont eat meat, chicken etc. I did buy some atlantic salmon so that will cover me for dinner some days. I also stocked up on lots of veggies, salad, some fruit etc etc.

Can you share what you eat for breakfast and lunch as I will be able to sort out dinner but feel like breakfast and lunch will be hard during phase 1.

Also can you eat the chobani greek yoghurts on this diet? I bought some of the smaller berry ones earlier and was hoping to have one of them with a pear for breakfast then some sort of salad for lunch and some fruit, then twiddle my thumbs and drink copious amounts of water until dinner and then paint the house after dinner time to keep my hands busy!!!

He did say it was okay to drink 1-2 cups of coffee so I am going to stick with my decaf coffee in the morning, then green tea for the rest of the day and lots of water.

Are you drinking seltzer of just water?

Did you drink coffee, even if it was decaf?

Any tips on how to get through the first 17 days?

I want this SO SO bad....I think my house will be very clean by the end of the 17 days as I will need to keep busy.

I will not be able to exercise as I have a broken ankle.

Thank in advance for any advice.

Re: The 17 day diet

Okay half way through day one and this is hard....I am hungry...I had a kefir drink plus a pear for breakfast, LOTS of water and a big bowl of salad with tomatoes for lunch, more water and now a yoghurt....think I will have to do something different for lunch tomorrow as this salad business is not cutting it for me - I usually add cheese and avocado to my salads and they are not allowed on phase 1.

I'm gonna give this a shot. I'm up 10 lbs from the wedding and even after 2 months of running the scale has not budged a single pound!

Re: The 17 day diet

Lucky - you can have an allotted amount of yoghurt a day - two servings and two servings of fruit but you have to eat your fruit before 2 pm.
I am not someone who will much on a raq vegetable - I would prefer crackers or something.....

I think my biggest pitfall today was lunch - it didnt satisfy me and I felt a gnawing hunger all afternoon. I am fine now as I ate a big dinner of salmon and lots of veggies so now that I know lunch time is a problem I will have to stay on top of it. I might do eggs for lunch tomorrow instead of salad. They do allow chicken vegetable soup but I dont eat chicken.

If I hop on the scales in the morning and it has moved down then I will probably be more motivated tomorrow.

Any of the experienced 17 day'ers have any words of wisdom / advise for us newbies?

Thanks for your response! I can't wait to get the book. I love raw veggies & fruit & chicken so I may do okay. I am not that picky of an eater...that's why I have my weight problem. If I can lose 25 lbs...I'll be a happy girl!

I was hungry for like the first. 2-3 days but I was fine after that. I think it's your body craving sugar/carbs and then it stops...
