If she was caring for these kids herself, that would be one thing. However, she is NOT. She hands them off to her older daughters to raise, and that is NOT RIGHT. The religion they are a part of advocates some really horrible things as far as childrearing. Google blanket training, Michael and Debi Pearl, and Bill Gothard if you want some real insight into what these people are all about.
The older girls can't leave, or they will be cut off from their families, no matter what they say for the cameras. The online college that Jill is doing is not an accredited college.
Those kids are brainwashed, and I feel so horribly bad for those older girls. Michelle identifies herself by her pregnancies, and it is evident that she has no real attachment to them except as trophies. She's like a hoarder, but with kids.
Wow, I did not know this... I'll have to look it up because now I'm curious about what these nutjobs do behind cameras!

I read numerous things on that, again - unsure of the truth.
I heard this too. I believe it broke in the news after one of their first specials. After they got picked up for a series it disappeared.
I have also heard that Jim Bob has the ultimate say in editing, and many of the things that they said (mostly about how they "trained" their children) in the first specials, before they were as media-savvy as they are now, were taken out of the specials when they were re-aired.

It is not just the difference part. If you have watched their shows and see how these children are raised, you see how controlled they really are. The older girls are expected to basically raise their brothers and sisters. They don't have a "normal" childhood.
I don't think it is the preeclampsia part that people are concerned about either. The last baby was born at 25 weeks, at 1 lb. and she was in danger of losing her life also.

I agree with this as well. One thing I felt was beaten into me in college was... give me back the same ideologies I am teaching.... I want your papers to reflect my opinion.... I know the stance is usually that college allows for us to become "free thinkers" but in my personal experience, I found it to be the opposite.
It seems the parents are taking the same stance as the professors in this case... do as I say, follow my ideologies, do not think for yourself, etc. I kind of feel bad for the kids. They seem like good kids but I could never imagine forcing my kids to have such a limited experience or view of life - all they know is homeschooling and raising their parents children... not fair at all imo. The kids all follow the same principles as the parents, and all plan to have large families as well. Again, no free thinking. The girls are not encouraged to be independent and career-minded, but to be good little homemakers and breeding machines. It seems they aren't even given the choice. The whole family seems like one big brainwashed cult to me!
I've definitely seen the "brainwashed" aspect of how the older children speak.... the things they say you can tell they have been taught by their parents. It seems rehearsed.
I find this happens A LOT with kids though. Lots of parents instill ideas into their kids heads, with or without realizing it. Here's a minor example... a woman and her daughter were getting on the bus, they walked passed someone with perfume on... the mother was noticeably disgusted by the perfume while the child seemed to not notice. The mother turned to the child and told her how disgusting the perfume was while acting nauseated and sickly over it. The child then repeated the sentiment. I remember immediately thinking that the child was picking up on something the mother didn't like and adopting as her own feelings towards it. It's a common thing in a parent child relationship, but I'm sure the level of extremity changes with different families.
I completely agree that the kids seem to be taught to think like their parents... no free thinking.

How old was this child? Because four of the Duggars who live at home (and the ones who do the majority of the talking) are over 18. From your description, it seems like the perfume kid is significantly younger. Not to say that there are no older kids who mimic their parents, but I think it's a lot rarer and not really comparable.

Just because they have beliefs and they are different then ours doesn't mean people should just willy nilly about very horrible things. There is a line, and I think some posters have crossed it. People are differnet and there are many many many religions and beliefs out there and just because we don't support it, understand it, follow it doesn't mean bad things happen or they shouldn't have more children. While I could not care less how many kids they have, I DO care of the kids who have been asked to be babysitters for their siblings for a very long time.
It's one thing to help your mom get a diaper, and do house chores. I am sure they have had to do more than their fair share like other regular kids because of their parents' choices.
That is the part that bothers me.
There is nothing wrong teaching kids responsiblities but once it involves requiring your kids to help you raise your kids on a daily basis because you have too many kids to handle on your own, then 1/ obviously you have too many kids 2/ kids are not being kids.

They have said on TV that they use blanket training and follow the Pearl's book as a childrearing guide. To me, that is abusive. I'm not speculating, they've said it ON TV. The older girls DO raise the kids... They've talked at length about the buddy system and how it works. This isn't opinion or wild speculation... I truly believe that the methods they use to keep the image of the happy Duggar family are a form of brainwashing and mind control.

Have you watched the show? The television interviews??? They are very vocal and proud at the massive responsibility that the older children have in taking care of the younger siblings---- that is not gossip or internet searches! they also are open about thier methods and religious beliefs enough so to the extent that it is a bit shocking. Before you jump on the posters here you should have known that the Duggars themselves are very vocal about this!!!!
as for incest accusations I have never heard of this and that is gossip. People from thier area also have a lot of gossip that is very upsetting if true. I feel bad for those children if it is

Yes and the tone the girls use with the younger kids is something a parent would do. A sibling should NOT have to be the parent. They can help, no doubt but to overtake their responsibilities, no.

This isn't about her 'not caring' about her carbon footprint or overpopulation. Her faith - her RELIGION - has taught her that GOD knows better than she does, than you do, than anyone does. She feels that God will not allow her to get pregnant when he feels that she's done. Until then, she just keeps on keeping on. She is probably petrified on some level. She is probably worried about her health and her children's health and her unborn child's health.. but she has faith that God has not misled her and that everything will be okay.
I think it's admirable that she has that much faith. I hope she and the baby are safe.

I think their are worse methods of parenting out there! They have said they don't use the spoon method.
