I agree with this as well. One thing I felt was beaten into me in college was... give me back the same ideologies I am teaching.... I want your papers to reflect my opinion.... I know the stance is usually that college allows for us to become "free thinkers" but in my personal experience, I found it to be the opposite.

Where did you get the 10 loads of laundry per day? That seems rather high, even for them!
Having their grandmother do their laundry isn't means to rip them apart IMO. I just don't think it's so awful.
Lots of people can't get their own household work done.... they hire people instead. So if 2 full time working parents couldn't get around to cleaning their home and so they hired someone to do it... I don't see that as a terrible thing. In this case the grandmother must want to do it. I'm sure she likes it.... otherwise she wouldn't do it. It's not like she's being forced to do their laundry....

that seems high to me. so basically 2 kids equal about 1 load a day?
I do laundry weekly for my baby. My one baby takes a week to make one decent sized load of laundry.

14 loads a week seems a lot more realistic than 10 a day.

I thought grandma lived with them. I watched a rerun and it showed that grandma and grandpa were staying there bc he was sick and it was easier to be there bc there were more hands to help with grandpa care.
I do like there tv. However after the scare of Jose. I myself would be scared to get pregnant again. but they seem happy and are raising there children with out help from the state.
I THINK from another episode, they take there kids to play at a local hockey rink several times a month and the play hockey with other children. So they do socialize with others, who do not have the same faith. But honestly I think cousin AMY is my favorite. :)

Not sure if she lives there now. Grandpa died awhile back.
From what others are saying though, they ARE getting breaks from taxes as they claim their home as a church.
I do think these kids get socialization BUT from other kids just like them.

If she was caring for these kids herself, that would be one thing. However, she is NOT. She hands them off to her older daughters to raise, and that is NOT RIGHT. The religion they are a part of advocates some really horrible things as far as childrearing. Google blanket training, Michael and Debi Pearl, and Bill Gothard if you want some real insight into what these people are all about.
The older girls can't leave, or they will be cut off from their families, no matter what they say for the cameras. The online college that Jill is doing is not an accredited college.
Those kids are brainwashed, and I feel so horribly bad for those older girls. Michelle identifies herself by her pregnancies, and it is evident that she has no real attachment to them except as trophies. She's like a hoarder, but with kids.

Wow. From just watching last night's episode (and I think I have seen EVERY episode since the begininng) I got the same vibes about the girls. They couldn't even answer some questions and had that look like they were going to get in trouble. I have seen the older girls discipling the younger ones and while I think children DO need discipline, they were making one of the girls, I think it was Johanna as she is one of the more "wild" ones call her Ma'am. I know it is a southern thing but she did it with such strength that it was more of a controlling thing than a discipline.
I think the children are good kids, no doubt about it but I do think they are controlled a lot and you can tell that from the older ones. It seems they are being taught that men are more important and that the women should wait on them. I see that from the oldest son and his wife.

Not sure, but I think they discourage the girls from attending college and are anti-gay and feel that people who seek infertility treatments are going against god.
Of course, people can believe whatever they want in the name of religion, but that alone makes me cringe...not sure if I like that many more people coming into the world being raised with that ideology.
But, not my kids....not my uterus...not my beliefs.

I think some of her child do college classes online. If i remember correctly one of the girls are trying to get a nursing degree.
They do College Plus online. It is NOt accredited. Not even really a college class- it is a college PREP class with a Christian emphisis. She will never be able to practice nursing with this and has not even been doing onsite lab work. A few of them are doing this from home and there is an article saying they are being paid to endorse it.
It is scary what they are being restricted from doing and they never had a typical teenage upbringing because they spent all their time being home schooled AND raising thier parents children.
They were on The Today show and MANY people there said it was upsetting. The older children are not happy off camera and one of the older girls is extremely depressed. Their upbringing is NOT admireable
there is NO individuality or free-thinking.

I love the Duggars. . . I can't believe how riled up people get over them though! As a PP mentioned I really think people just can't handle others who are different.
Also, are some of you implying that a woman who's had preeclampsia shouldn't go on to have other children? Having one case of it does not indicate that you'll experience it again in future from what I understand.

It seems the parents are taking the same stance as the professors in this case... do as I say, follow my ideologies, do not think for yourself, etc. I kind of feel bad for the kids. They seem like good kids but I could never imagine forcing my kids to have such a limited experience or view of life - all they know is homeschooling and raising their parents children... not fair at all imo. The kids all follow the same principles as the parents, and all plan to have large families as well. Again, no free thinking. The girls are not encouraged to be independent and career-minded, but to be good little homemakers and breeding machines. It seems they aren't even given the choice. The whole family seems like one big brainwashed cult to me!
