Posted by Princessmaris Yes and there is no such thing as a min. pymnt @ a hospital...you can mail them 5 bucks a month...
hypothetically- if you have a sick child, and you know that all they need is baby motrin- what IF the pharmacy refuses to carry that (or an alternative). so, you're forced to go to the ER ad pay $750 for them to give you something that you already knew you needed?
just not logical to me
Well to me... baby motrin is not aborting an unborn child!
and to me, neither is the MAP
Which goes back to the... its all personal opinion....on "when life begins"
WHy not sell reg BC otc???? Less of a dosage, less side effects, wont piss off the pro lifers....????

the point is.. WHY treat the ER as your own personal pharmacy when you can just go to your Regular pharmacy (which in Many places is WalMart), and get it on your own
Your point is well taken. But if the pharmacy you want to get the pill at doesn't stock it... you have to move on to the next one. A lawsuit is not the answer.
i *think* (and, really this is just my interpretation).. is that its not that WalMart SIMPLY did Not have it in stock, BUT, that they made a Clear cut, 'moral' decision to Deny carrying the product at all.
that right there is what changes things, IMO.

based on that new article it seems as though it is prescription still. Am I misreading?
the way i read it, it is prescription, but can be used as an OTC in emergency cases, or if the pharmacist goes through special training to dispense it.
I thought I read that too but got all confused
"In Massachusetts, the drug also has prompted debate. The Legislature last year overwhelmingly overrode a veto by Governor Mitt Romney of a bill that allowed pharmacists to dispense Plan B without a prescription if they underwent special training and consulted regularly with a physician. The measure also required hospital emergency rooms to make emergency contraceptives available to rape victims" Since its a double negative (overrode the veto) that means it can be otc? LOL...I have debated myself into confusion.

Yes, it is still a prescription but the drug company that manufactures it is trying to make it over the counter.

Yeah... just like they have the choice to not stock Eminem's explicit album. Just like they sell product A... but not product B.
Companies make marketing decisions for a reason. While it may be moral... the bottom line is the dollar bill in the end.

i don't think it's OTC like sudafed is OTC. I think that if you go to a pharmacy and the pharmacist has the training, then they would be able to dispense. Or if you are raped and go to a hospital, they can give you the pill. OR, you can go to your doctor and get a prescription and go to a pharmacy without a trained pharmacist. Apparently, according to that article, CVS has a special training program for their pharmacists for this pill.

For me it comes down to this: If I need the pill, I don't want to walk into whatver pharmacy is available to me and be told by Joe behind the counter that I can't have something that I am legally allowed to have. Thats all this boils down to, FOR ME

But not being able to get Eminem's latest cd isn't going to allow an unwanted child to be born to parents who are not ready

Yes but it depends on why you can't have it.
Because his company has no stock of the pill?
Or because he doesn't feel like giving it to you even though you see the jar behind him on the shelf because he morally doesn't believe in it?
Big difference between the two. One is fine. One is grossly wrong.

yes you are legally allowed to have it BUT should they be legally required to sell it? As well as the multitude of other OTC drugs

im sorry, but IMHO, its hypocritical of those that say that the MAP is wrong because its making the conscious decision to terminate a pregnancy. 1st off- most women arent even 100% sure that theyre pregnant at that point, they take it as a Precation (i.e- the same reason people take the regular BC Pill); 2nd- someone may be pregnant, and still take their regular BC pill without realizing it, and that will terminate the pregnancy too. IMO, theyre one in the same.

Re: The Morning After Pill
Its sad, that our world is filled with more people who will abuse this medication, then with woman who tried to be responsible...and werent successful....
There will be more people (mainly kids) that will say...why use a condom....we could just by the MAP... w/o even realizing how many diseases and possible side effects they are opening thereself up too!

Until a law is passed that requres every store owning a pharmacy licence to carry this pill... this will not happen.

Good point.
And this has also been happening with the plain old BC pill, that there are pharmacists who refuse to dispense it.
Wal-Mart has no problem selling guns, for crying out loud. Because gun violence is certainly not a problem. I don't consider this to be a pro-woman corporation anyway. That's my take. Their decision to not sell this pill speaks volumes about their attitude towards women.

I got preg on the pill... was taking my pill for 2 weeks while I was preg. (because I didnt know) When I told my OB that he wasnt concerned....the last 2 weeks is such a small dose the chances of it neg. effecting my baby was small....
ETA- There must be a rather BIG difference in the MAP and the reg BC pill...if my DR wasnt horrified I had been taking my pill for 2 weeks, already
