I just don't get it.

Aren't they supposed to be donating instead of doing that?

Not flawed if you consider the amount of money and awareness it has raised! It actually pretty amazing!

Sorry, but those disease you listed, even Aids, so not compare to als in terms of horror. At least with those disease there is some hope. They are also fabulously well founded and all have available treatment, unlike als. I have a son with cerebral palsy and my husband wanted to do the challenge and publicly statE on fb he was donating to UCP. I said absolutely not. Many forms of cp are a gift compared to als. And no, I am not personally affected by als. It's just that bad.
I totally agree with you!!!
ALS is finally being brought to light by this challenge and I think it's wonderful that people are participating. ALS is a horrific disease and I saw someone very close to me suffer from it. There is no hope with ALS no hope at all!!!!

I don't understand how people are confused that if all you are seeing is a bunch of attention seekers pouring water over their heads, how you won't think it's stupid???
Maybe it boils down to I need new family and friends

this stupid ice water challenge....
I didn't read everyone's comments but I've read that millions have been donated to cancer and yet we aren't any closer to curing it. A disease like als gets virtually no mentions and this time last year raised 22k. It's at 4m now. You're supposed to donate $10 for every person you nominate. Not everyone realizes this. But without this ice bucket challenge no one would have donated. I wouldn't have, but bc of awareness I did.
And to everyone who says it's stupid if your husband had ALS you'd be singing a different tune and so grateful. I think it's awesome. Let's all focus on the positive for a hot minute.

I'll be really honest, not one of the people on my FB feed were out for attention on it. A lot of people on my feed were saying how they are doing this in the honor of XYZ person. I'm sorry that your feed is full of the attention seekers!

And to be very CLEAR... I don't think it is stupid, I think the people on my feed who are doing it for attention seeking purposes ONLY and not donating, but bragging about being dumped with ice water, are "stupid".

Me too, and honestly after reading others people experience and what they have seen, I think it's awesome what I read on here. But going off of my feed, it's nothing like that. So to me it just seemed stupid and like a dumb idea. Obviously, I see now for a the couple of hundred morons they are a million others doing a great thing for ALS.
And trust me it's not anger or hatred, I just have no patience for stupid. I literally had to witness the stupidity in my own home last night.

I think the issue that people have with it being stupid is b/c there really are some people who are doing it b/c it's the "cool" thing to do right now. Not the donating part. The dumping a bucket of ice water on their heads and "making" 3 other friends do it as well part. I can guarantee you that there are some people who are doing it because it's funny and had and still have no idea what ALS is.
But thankfully, many people are also donating and doing the challenge or are just donating. It's pretty amazing how raised!

If I had been seeing what you are describing, I'd be complaining about the stupidity, too. I have been shocked to see how many people actually know someone who has been affected by ALS, which I learned solely from this viral challenge. I had no idea how prevalent it really is.

If we ignored every movement that had a few trend-hungry, greedy, or oblivious people attached to it, we'd pretty much have nothing left. People are forever doing things to be trendy; the start of that didn't come with this challenge.
These people who are doing it "to be cool" aren't undercutting the entire project or rendering the project itself foolish, unworthy, "stupid," etc., and, perhaps, they are learning a little something, unbeknownst to those viewing the video through Facebook.

honestly, EVERY SINGLE ice water challenge i've seen on my news feed always says the same thing.... "dump a bucket of ice water over your head OR donate to ALS". i've never seen anyone who posts that they are going to dump the water AND donate its always been presented as dump or donate
i think this is the case for a lot of people which is why people are getting a bad taste in their mouth from the ice water challenge. i know i did, until i read this thread

Its not only ALS, that just whats going around at the moment. Back in April when it was COLD my husband and I did it and donated to the Suffolk County Burn Center. Were both volly FF and it was going around the fire departments back then.
Nobody is saying you CANT donate to other charities. I dont understand why people think its stupid. Its for a good cause and its all in fun. If you dont want to watch the video keep scrolling. I think its stupid that everyone is so put off by something that is doing so much good...

IMO, The people who donate = People raising awareness. Which is like 6 of one half dozen of the other in terms of donating. Both roads lead to the same destination.
And to the OP: I would post a status update on FB how you would like to be excluded from being nominated further if it's become too much.
