We're still going strong at 10 1/2 months. I've always introduced the sippy cup at around 12 months.

I started flavored water ( water with a splash of 100% juice) at about 10 months. This taught him to drink from the cup. we will start with pumped bm mixed with cow milk after nhis 12 month apt. For now all his milk comes from the tap and he drinks his sippy with meals.

I give it to him to "familarize" him with it but he chews on the top and bottom - doesn't get that he's supposed to drink from it.

DD chewed on her sippy for a looong time. Then when she turned a year, it just clicked one day. But only with the Born Free soft spout sippy cups. I really like those. GL!

so what how do you feed your DC if BFing? Only by nursing or bottle? I plan to continue until 1 year, but if I get a job or want to go out, I need her to eat from someone else.
All she does now if chew on the cup

Re: those who BF for 9+mo....how did you transition to sippy cup?
DS is 11 months, I have been consistently giving him a sippy at meals with a little water (we use the nuby and the born free)---he just started getting the hang of it a few weeks ago. I would just keep trying, it took him a while
ETA to answer your next question.... If I need to go out he now gets pumped milk from the sippy, once he mastered it with water, he did fine with the milk, but we never did a lot of bottles anyways

Re: those who BF for 9+mo....how did you transition to sippy cup?
I just started my DD with a sippy around 8 months because she was getting constipated and I needed to give her water. I EBF and she only had a bottle a few times so I figured I might as well try to skip over the bottle and go right to the sippy. I would try different types. With my DS I tried a whole bunch of kinds until I found one that he liked. My DD likes ones with a soft spout. I first tried the Nuby soft spouts and she drank from them, but was choking a bit because the flow was much faster than she's used to. Now I've been using a Nuk soft spout and also a Gerber soft spout one and she's doing great. You might also want to try a straw cup. My DS used to just play with the cup and didn't really understand that he was supposed to drink from it. I actually used the take and toss sippy cups and made the holes a little bigger with a knife so I could squeeze a little water into his mouth while he was drinking. That helped him understand that there was something to drink in there and he eventually got it, but it took a while with him, unlike DD who sucked it down right away!
eta: DD pretty much only nurses so I don't really leave her with anyone during the day. Sometimes with my DH, but I usually just run out quick so I can be back when she needs to eat. Now that she's eating solids though I would just have him feed her solid food if I needed some extra time. I despise pumping and would rather be limited in my time out than have to pump milk for bottles! I only have a few months left to go at this point (hoping to make it to 1 year) so I just suck it up for now.

Re: those who BF for 9+mo....how did you transition to sippy cup?
DD is a year old and Im still BF, although Im weaning her at this point. I started giving her the sippy cup at about 10 months or so with just a little water in it. She would bite it(which you have to do with this type of cup to get the water out) and then would get confused and bite me when I BF her...so I wasnt so consistant with the sippy cup. Now at a year I give her the sippy cup a few times a day with water in it, BF her before bed and now she is getting 3 bottles because I am weaning her. She likes the sippy cup, but doesnt drink it long enough to get enough milk...thats why I do bottles.

We started DS on a sippy cup with juice at 6 months. He never had a problem with it. We used the Nuby's and they are great because they are soft
