You are clearly grasping at straws.

Ok, you are right. He's a classy black man who clearly does not pay one iota to the skin color of a person. Great guy there who has great respect for women of all colors, and all levels of sobriety. You got me. Chat Icon

Thoughts on what happened at Hamilton?

I bet those who have a problem with this guys tweet are the same who said that trump wasn't describing sexual assault in the tape with billy bush.

Is this the entire tweet?

St. Patty's day weekend is like Christmas for black dudes who like white chicks. Happy holidays boys.

How is that encouraging rape? Sorry but since when is the only way a black male and white female have sex is when there is a rape involved?

Really. There is nothing here that says "take advantage of drunk white girls!"

Some people are way over-interpreting this.

ETA- it's also interesting that people are making assumptions about this guy's character based on ONE tweet. If that was the case, Trump would have been out of the running right away.

No, add that with the guy having the nerve to call attention to the VP of the US by putting him on notice at a play he was attending for leisure (not business). That's t the clear hypocrisy of this guy. If he wants to speak for racial equality, then he shouldn't ever be caught encouraging men based on their color to hit on women based on their color and sobriety status.

But business versus leisure is over.

He is the VP elect.

He - unfortunately - represents the country.

He is going to hear things like this, especially given his record. He has advocated for terrible things that have hurt and made life harder for so many innocent people.

Not 100% sure how I feel about the whole thing. What the actor said wasn't bad at the end of the show, (meaning the message was a good one) and it was his right to do so, just not sure it was the right time. I do think Trump's tweets were silly. I do think the white girl comment was also in bad taste. But I think Pence responded perfectly and continued to praise the show.

Re: Thoughts on what happened at Hamilton?

Many/most states have laws that regarding a person consenting to sex if they are incapacitated by alcohol. This guy's tweet was clearly aimed at black men hitting on white women since they would be impaired in their judgement due to alcohol on St. Patrick's day. That's why it's "Christmas" morning for black men in his tweet, so many presents to open!

So much for fair and just coming from this big mouth.

Again, why can't they just be out hitting on white women looking to hook up? A white girl does not have to be incapacitated to want to hook up with a black guy. Pinning these guys as predators is wrong imo and those kind of racist assumptions are exactly what I'm worried about becoming the norm under this administration.

Thoughts on what happened at Hamilton?

My stance on almost everything is to just respect one another. There was no reason for the cast to be saying anything to Pence at the play. Pence was there with his family and wanted to enjoy a show. Of course it is freedom of speech and they can say what the want or boo when they want but it is just plain rude. Just because you can do something doesn't mean that you should. Half the problem with America is that people feel entitled to do whatever they please whenever they please and no one respects each other. That goes for both sides of the political spectrum. Regardless of where you stand and who you voted for, people need to respect the Presidency, even if the guy is an asshole. Then if 4 years, vote him out if needed. That is beauty of our government.

Yes. The underlying racism here is disgusting. If it was white guys hitting on drunk white women on st pats day, it would be a-Ok. But the black guys doing it makes them predators.

Trump bragged about physically and sexually assaulting women and he was elected president. So why does any of this matter? Hypocritical much?

Exactly which is exactly why something was said. It was the perfect chance because seriously, when will pence ever have the attention of such a diverse group of people, people who are the target of pences vile beliefs.

He brought up black, not me or anyone else. So please do tell me, why is he saying "black" guys? Why not all guys? White or black? And why is he referencing St. Patty's day? Why not any old day at a bar? Because St. Patty's day is known for being a day where white people get extra loaded. And it's not being black that would make them predators. It's him encouraging men (who also happen to be black since that is who the tweet was towards) hitting on women (white in this case) solely because they will be impaired from alcohol. That's what makes him sound like a predator. Don't go twisting my words to make anything I am saying racist. I am responding to his words and his use of race descriptions of black men, white women, etc.

I agree with his. And, honestly, for security purposes, I think it was in bad taste. There a tons of crazy people, and one could have been there that night, wanting to cause harm to Pence. I just don't think that it was their call to make announcing his presence.

Its BS that with all that is going on right now, he is more concerned about Hamilton and Alec Baldwin. Typical Narcissist.

I think the cast felt that they had to take the opportunity to get a message across and they did it respectfully and tactfully.

I'm not sure why this actors old tweet has anything to do with this....

I'm sure the actor was speaking for the cast as a whole - so I wouldn't single him out. He is the lead actor who plays a Vice President so...

The themes of Hamilton are very resonant today and I think they were very respectful

Re: Thoughts on what happened at Hamilton?

This was done art curtain call.. Where there are often pleas for support for one cause or another are made by cast at the of a show. Hamilton is a political show made up of the very people Pence has legislated against Indiana. It was a once a lifetime opportunity for them say their peace and have him listen. He wasn't held hostage, he could have left. The show had already ended.

And Pence wasn't offended, why do we even care?

Because trump is a child who can't handle the pressure of the office? Because wants detract from his trump u settlement? All the above?

I was just going to say this. He no longer gets a business vs leisure distinction. Neither does Trump. neither Does Obama or any past president elect/president.

I'm also not sure why this old tweet has anything to do with this or why it was even brought up in the first place. Pence wasn't offended by the comments (which were respectful). Just bc Trump can't handle one iota of criticism without having a full on temper tantrum doesn't mean that what happened was innapropriate.

To answer the question of why do we care? Because it's literally the only.freaking.thing the news outlets have broadcast this weekend. Once again fueling outrage where there's none to be had. The actor/cast spoke their mind, Pence was cool with it, that SHOULD be the end of that. We seriously had a lot more important things we need to be worrying about in our lives. Trump especially. Still not sure why no one on his team has taken his twitter away from him yet!

He said he was going to defeat ISIS and keep us from getting attacked here, but warring with SNL and a Broadway show hardly instills confidence or seems productive.

Time to stop with the thin skinned vengefulness centered around slights to HIM and start caring about the public good.

Also, "alt right" is a nice name for white supremacists who hate women. Read Breitbart on women. Look at the UNIFORMLY white male picks he has made thusfar and what these people stand for.

This is not a run of the mill conservative republican administration, folks. PAY ATTENTION.
