Tipping.... How do we feel about tipping in places like DD Starbucks & McDonalds??

I usually drop whatever change I get in the cup. Once however, There's a Dunkin by my job. You go to the counter, place your order, they hand you the appropriate sized cup and you go to a counter and make the coffee yourself. The guy behind the counter went to drop my change in the cup. I looked at him like he was nuts- "you want a tip for handing me a styrofoam cup?"

How do we feel about this???

Starbucks is out of control with their prices, they shouldn't have a tip cup.

I've never seen one at McDonalds...that's just ridiculous.

Dunkin Donuts...I've tossed some change in there but I do think it's a little much to tip people for doing their job. It's not like a restaurant where you're being waited on for a while.

ETA: I would have done the same thing...no tip for giving me a cup...

If they make my coffee I always throw change in the cup at DD. If they just handed me a cup then I wouldn't.

I used to tip at my old DD because they knew my name, what I wanted and let me cut long lines because I was a daily customer. Starbuck's cost too much to tip! I don't eat Mickey D's because I think it is gross...so no tip for them either.

I feel like...Not a chance in helll! Since when do we tip people for doing their job? That's like tipping the lady the checks you out at the grocery store or at Macy's....this is silly and when asked to "tip" I don't

tipping has gotten out of CONTROL!

waiters, manicurist, airport bag porters, cab drivers, fine. but when does it end? will we start tipping cashiers at Target or Macy's next?

Excellent point!!! At my last mani/pedi the woman told me they only take tips in cash. I told her I would have to go to the atm, blah blah. While my nails were wet and I was waiting for the wax to heat...she started pushing me out the door and told me to go to the atm!!! I suddenly turned into my MIL and this insane Queens/Bronx accent came out in the middle of NC. I flipped out and said, "Read my lips chicky, no tip for you! You must be outta your mind to think it is okay to tell people to tip." I went on and on in my newfound Queens/Bronx accent and ripped the woman a new one. I asked her if she had ever been to Flushing, Queens and told her she would not make it a day with her nasty attitude because we only tip when it is deserved!

That happened to me at a place in Bellmore. I tipped a women and she said, " I did your feet and hands". I was mortified!! So I went "oh" and gave her another dollar.. Some freaking nerve.

I tip at the italian ice place. I do it b/c it's kids working there for the summer and they can use the extra money.

I do tip at Starbucks because I'm a regular customer at that particular store and they always have my order waiting for me when I come in.

I don't tip at places like that...I don't drink/order coffee so I don't feel the need to tip someone for putting things in a bag.

If I went anywhere on a regular basis that they had my order waiting for me, I'd probably tip. Otherwise, I think it's getting out of hand. The customer is already (over) paying for the purchase and the employee is already getting paid. Why do I need to tip you for doing your job that you are ALREADY getting paid for???
FWIW, if someone took my change and automatically went to put it in their tip jar, I'd probably flip my $hit!

Dunkin & Starbucks, yes usually because we go to the same ones all the time and they get it ready for us.

I dont tip at those places usually. Sometimes at starbucks if the particular barista who knows me is there and already has my drink order started before I get to the register to place it and pay for it then I throw the change into the box they have at the counter.

When I see little kids who are selling lemonade though you know for a nickel I give them a dollar who can resist cute little kids

McDonalds...no. It wouldn't even occur to me.

Starbucks...only if they go above & beyond.

Lemonade stands - I have a standing policy to never pass one by & always tip at least $1.

I don't tip in those type of businesses.

I would rather (and often have) take my change and put it in the little box for Ronald McDonald House!

I give my change in the bucket at the bagel store but thats b/c they made me the food.

I wouldnt tip they guy who handed me the cup and then i made my coffee.. Yes im sure they put the hot water in the container that made the coffee but they do get paid to do that. For him to just assume your change is his tip is ridiculous. I waitressed and i know its hard work and im a big tipper.
