Transition from bottle to sippy Q

So my LO will be 1 in 10 days and I tried putting her night milk bottle in a sippy. She showed minimal interest and probably only drank an ounce or two.

I tried again this morning and she wanted no part of it, yet she loves drinking from her sippy throughout the day.

Is it to early to transition? Anyone else have a difficult time during the transition? My son was the same way. Once we took away his bottle at about 18 months, he never drank milk again. I don't want that to happen with her.

Any tips?

Re: Transition from bottle to sippy Q

We just gave up the bottle at 18 months. For the first few days DD refused all milk from the sippy. Then she slowly gave in a little, but it's not like before. I asked around and a quite few people said that their kids almost completely stopped drinking milk when the bottle was gone no matter what they tried, so I guess it is what it is and depends on the child.

We give DD yogurt and cheese to offset the lack of milk, and I've even mixed a little bit of a yogurt smoothie in with her milk to make it more enticing (which sometimes works). But if she doesn't want the milk she's not going to drink it no matter what I do.

Transition from bottle to sippy Q

When we switched to whole milk at 1 yr old, I didn't give DS another bottle. He had a cup with a straw and that's what he used. He did not like it at all at first -- we even got heat from daycare saying it was too much too soon, he was jealous / upset of the other babies' bottles etc, but I didn't care. I stuck to my guns and 4 days later he was over it.

ETA: I should also say that DS never took a bottle to bed with him at night so there wasn't the need for bottle/milk for comfort / to get to sleep. That could've made the transition easier for him.

Re: Transition from bottle to sippy Q

My lo is only 7 months, so I can't speak from experience, but 1 year seems a little young to take away the nighttime bottle, if he is still resistant. That is still part of his nighttime routine and may need the security. I think that maybe after a few months, when he can rely more on words, a new routine can be established. Again, I have no experience with this, but just sharing my thoughts.
