Transition from RNP to crib

I love that my DS sleeps in the rnp..he has reflux..which is under control with pepcid..i feel like i can see him sleep...however, i am getting lots of pressure from family members to transition him to crib..they say he is never going to adjust to a flat surface...he is 10 weeks old...any thoughts? My ped. even said that the incline cam cause pressure on his stomach..and that sleep flat may be more comfortable.tia

No experience with reflux but my DD is almost 10 weeks and I plan on transitioning her within the next 2 weeks or so. In thinking if starting with naps, hoping it goes well!

that was my thought too..ds..is not the best napper...he does a nice morning nap...but then..30 min cat naps throughout the day..maybe i should let him do the morning naps in his crib or pack and play.

Re: Transition from RNP to crib

My DD is 10 weeks and in rnp as well. I am so nervous about putting her in the crib because she hates sleeping flat. I am going to start the transition in two weeks. I have a feeling it is going to be difficult!Chat Icon

Re: Transition from RNP to crib

My dd had reflux, too. I transitioned her to the portacrib in our room first, thn to her crib at 8 months. Do what is right for you. If you feel he is ready, then try it. If not, hold off. There's a reason the rnp goes up to 25 lbs Chat Icon

My DS has reflux. He is still in the R&P and he is 5 months next week. He sleeps 12 hours straight and loves being put in it to sleep. I really don't want to transition yet. I am planning on doing it at 6 months.

dd slept in her RNP for 4 and a half months and then transitioned to the crib pretty easily. I wouldn't worry!

Re: Transition from RNP to crib

We made the transition from the RnP to the PnP

It was rough cause he hated to be flat. But in a few days he was fine. We did it at 4 months because we were visiting my parents and he was going to be sleeping in a PnP so we had no choice.

We will move him to the crib once we are comfy with puttin him in his own room.

this is my son. He's 4 1/2 months and still in the RNP. He has reflux controlled by Prilosec. He's always a pacifier man so i'm afraid to lay him flat now because him being in the RNP keeps the pacifier in his mouth on its own. Chat Icon

But we have to make the move soon...

we are also getting comments EVERY week from my DH's family about it... I just ignore it! Chat Icon

DS just turned 3 months and we took him out of the RnP because he would move so much it would rock furiously and I was afraid he'd fall out! He''s also a big boy. He had no issues at all sleeping on a flat mattress in the pack and play or crib.

Re: Transition from RNP to crib

We'll be transitioning her at 6 months old, in about three weeks. I'd have tried it sooner but a) I'm terrified because she goes right to sleep and sleeps thru the night in it, and b) we're going on vacation next week where we'll need to use it and didn't want to transition before then and then go back to the RNP on vacation.

I asked my dr and he didn't see any problem with it. I was worried about her rolling development since she doesn't get the opportunity to be flat and roll in the RNP like she would the crib, but doctor wasn't concerned.

Re: Transition from RNP to crib

I transitioned DD from the RNP to her crib around 7 weeks maybe, but I don't think 10 weeks is too "old" for the RNP. Keep DC in it for as long as you feel comfortable. For DD, she slept better in her crib and I have a video monitor so I can watch her as much as I want. If I didn't have the video monitor, I prob wouldn't have felt so comfortable transitioning her so early.

Re: Transition from RNP to crib

no reflux experiene, but i waited a very long time to transition from RNP to crib for a variety of reasons. she was 8m when she went in the crib. it really worked perfect for us and for her. she slept well in the RNP and we transitioned from RNP in our room, to the living room, to her room, then to the crib in her room.

when we first transitioned we used a crib wedge (from buy buy baby) although she rarely actually laid on the wedge part. literally, i dont want to jinx it, but she has STTN every night since we put her in the crib and she's almost 13m now. next time around i might transition a little earlier, but IMO there's really no rush if they are comfortable and sleeping well. even though your PED mentioned tummy issues due to the reflux, IMO if your baby seems comfortable, go by how the baby sleeps and acts.

this was one of our major reasons for waiting so long as well.
