Transitioning From Breast Milk to Formula and Need Help...

When my son was born I tried Breastfeeding in the hospital and he would latch but wasn't getting anything and would scream bloody murder, so we supplemented the Similac Advanced that they gave us.

But when I got home, we took him off the formula only fed him breast milk. And I have been pumping ever since.

I have to go back to work in 3 weeks and I want to change him back to formula b/c I can not pump with my job. (Not a clean environment to pump)

We tried Enfamil Lipil a month ago for one feeding, and he spit it up a little, then every feeding afterwards (which was breast milk)for 12 hrs he vomited (projectile)..

Hubby and the Dr thought it was the breast milk, but I knew it was the formula b/c I was really careful of what I ate.

Well, this past weekend I tried the Enfamil again b/c and the same thing happened,so I know it was the formula.

I spoke with the Dr,and he said to wait until today to try anything new as long as he has been good for the past couple of days...

So now my question.......

I'm planning on trying the formula for the next feeding (which will be soon). Do I do a whole bottle of formula???

Oh.. I'm trying the Similac that he was first on in the hospital. And I was planning on doing the powder. I figured it would be easier on his tummy.

Or do I start off with Breast milk, and finish with formula??? Can you mix like that???

I don't know what to do, and the Dr covering for mine was no help..Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I don't want to see him throw up like that again, I hate it. And it takes a full day for him to recoup, and he has been eating and sleeping so well...Chat Icon

Thanks for your help.. I know this was long...Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I would start off with the BM and then finnish off with the formula. My DD does this at almost every feeding. You might want to try the good start formula. Also you have to let your baby get used to the formula so it may take a few feedings to see what the true reaction is. Good luck!
