Transitioning from formula to milk

DS is almost 12 months old. He's been on Elecare since he was about 4 months old but he seems to have outgrown his milk allergy (he eats yogurts and ice cream with no problems and tested negative for any food allergies last week). I want to start transitioning him to cows milk but I'm not sure if there's a "right" way to do this. Do I start by cutting his formula with milk or do I just give him a bottle full of just milk? Do you just drop formula cold turkey? Anyone's DS not like the taste?

And lastly, we always put rice cereal in his formula for reflux. I dont know that he still NEEDS it, he's probably just used to it by now. Should I leave it out of the milk or continue to add it?

Re: Transitioning from formula to milk

My ped suggested just giving DS a small amount of milk first (like 2 oz) on its own. I tried that for a few days and it wasn't working. Then I mixed the 2 oz milk with 4 oz of formula in the bottle and did it that way. I gradually increased the amount of milk in each bottle and decreased the amount of formula. It took about a week until he was totally on milk. For some children, they can go straight to milk so you may want to try that first and see what happens.

I have no advice about the cereal because I have never had to do that. Good luck!

we started to add an oz. of cows milk to their formula and increased the amount each day or two as tolerated, until it was all milk. we had no issues.

I started by adding a little milk to a bottle for a couple days...then pretty much went cold turkey and she did great!

Re: Transitioning from formula to milk

Started with 2oz milk and 4oz formula. Did that for a few days then gradually increased the milk and put less formula. Then just did milk.
BTW... don't miss formula at all. Milk is sooo easy

May want to ask the Ped about the cereal. Sounds like he's outgrowing it and may not need it anyway
