Re: need opinions! wwyd if....
i just thought of something... their son is about 15ish and he walks the dog sometimes. i've been noticing lately that he's been walking the dog along our driveway/the side of their house (it's technically their yard/grass but he has to walk in our driveway to walk him over there bc the houses are so close together) to go to the bathroom. do you think by doing that he's training the dog to think it's ok to come over to our driveway/yard? i know it's unintentional and doesn't account for the running, jumping and biting but perhaps he thinks it's ok to come over bc the kid is walking him over there?

I'd go over and talk to them, and then if it doesn't improve and the dog acts out again, call Animal Control or the police.
I despise irresponsible pet owners.

From what I know about dogs, that's how they mark their territory so yes, I think it's reinforcing that the area is "his" & may be protecting his territory.

Just b/c it's not an enormous dog doesn't mean it can't be dangerous.
I completely agree with this.
Quick story, my family has a dog that is about 13 years old. He is the sweetest dog under the sun and has always been such a good dog. A few years ago my brother was playing with him and he snapped and bit my brother's face. my brother needed stitches and was in the hospital for 2 days. We obviously still don't know what made our dog snap like that (we can't ask him ) but he did. We were all shocked when it happened bc he's never been aggressive before, he's a "momma's boy."
Your neighbor's dog looks like a lovable family dog that probably just has a ton of energy but you NEVER know with dogs.
I totally agree that you need to have a very serious talk with one or both of your neighbors so that they know that you mean business. And please, please call if that dog gets out again!!!!

I'm a huge animal lover, but your only option is the police or animal control. The dog could kill someone.

I would talk to the owners.
They can put the dog on anti-anxiety meds, they don't have to put him down. Maybe they are not aware of that.
The police/animal control will make things hostile between you for sure. I'm just not sure I would go that route first, although if things don't change you will have to.
Don't the owners know that their dog bites people? I'm assuming they've been told, no?
Police/animal control didn't make things hostile. Their lack of responsibility as a pet owner has.
I'm sure they do know. However, animal control/ the police will likely just give them a warning, then a fine, etc... They won't just come and take the dog.
I'm just thinking of the quickest/ friendliest way to remedy the situation.
I'm not suggesting they will take the dog. Heck, I was attacked, wound up in the hospital, and the authorities didn't take the dog away from the owner. Calling the authorities the next time a dangerous incident happens, though, will at least let these people know you are serious about this.
Just b/c it's not an enormous dog doesn't mean it can't be dangerous. The dog that attacked me was a mixed breed, medium sized. It did some serious damage and I have several permanent scars from him. I wouldn't wait for it to escalate to even more dangerous levels. I would talk to the neighbors NOW and called the police at the next incident without question.
I'm sorry you were attacked, that's terrible!
My son was bit on the hand by our dog Ivan. It was a small bite on the hand but it landed him in the hospital for a week with celulitis.
It never happened before or again.
I didn't know what to do with the dog, I thought I would have to put him down. Anyway, I took him to the vet and they gave him meds. He's better now, but I still won't let him near my children.
So that was my point really. Maybe she could speak to them and let them know they have options other than putting the dog down.
Obviously it's a serious problem and something needs to be done. So that's what I would do. I would also keep in contact w/ them to make sure they are correcting the situation. If not, then I would call the authorities.

Re: need opinions! wwyd if....
If the dog has teeth and is showing aggression, it doesn't matter what type of dog it is.
I'm a dog lover too, and if the owners were aware ONCE that their dog bit a person or a dog, I say call Animal Control. The fact that they call the dog "crazy" as if that makes it ok not to control the situation is enough for me.
Anyone who has an aggressive dog and allows them to attack people or other dogs is not taking the situation seriously enough and deserves to be investigated.
I really don't see why there should be any delay in reporting them, and I think every minute this dog is untrained and uncontrollable is a potential mauling of a child, adult or animal.

ok this is what i think we're going to do:
the first person we see (hopefully it's the dad bc i really don't see the mom doing ANYTHING about it) we're going to tell them that "we didn't want it to come to this but you really need to do something to control "dumbasss." he's getting loose a lot more lately and the other day when "sally" had him out he even bit our friend and drew blood. maybe she can't control him and shouldn't be walking him unless she's in the backyard, but it's not only when she has him out. i know that they are good family dogs and they're easy to train so perhaps he just needs some additional training and he'll be much easier for you guys to control."
yay or nay?
yes I think you should really talk to your neighbors first and show them you mean business. then if it happens again, call .

I would speak to them first before you call animal control.
I know a lot of enforcement agencies suggest that you do that before you call them.
It's unpleasent but, it needs to be done if you want some peace.
After several nights of my neighbor leaving her dog out overnight barking, I decided to go over and talk to her about it. Yes, it was 3 am but, I couldnt think of a better time.

I think the neighbor blaming YOU is ridiculous. I agree with all the PP that you should call the cops or animal control the next time anything happens.

Re: UPDATE need opinions! wwyd if....
I had a situation where the neighbor's dog (a pitbull) chased after me (I was pregnant at the time), chased after my daughter and then one day BIT my husband to the point where he had to go get stitches. Animal Control/cops were involved but they didn't euthanize the dog. When the dog was returned, my husband threatened to kill the dog if it got out again. Don't you know it ATTACKED a worker at their house and finally they got rid of the f'ing thing! What did they replace it with?? Another aggressive pit! I now carry a baseball bat in my car and keep one outside my door. Doggie's brains are going to hit the pavement if it approaches my newborn or my daughter. I'm not playing with my family's safety for one second!
Don't wait for something more drastic to occur. God forbid a child gets injured on your property. I would not want my lack of actions to be on my conscience. Call someone and report it!

That's insane! They need to get control of their dog. I would have called animal control by now.

Call the police or animal control. Both would have been called after said dog broke through my fence and attacked the dogs.
