UPDATED with diagnosis from ped- Sick child and plans.........

So, DS is sick . I have plans tonight with a friend for dinner and shopping. DH would be home with DS. Am I a terrible mother for still going out with my friend? She just had her 2nd baby and we NEVER get to go out AT ALL. Our hubbies are best-friends since childhood and go out EVERY SINGLE THURSDAY without fail for beer and dinner and some weeks more than that. Pretty much whenever they feel like it.

Should I stay home since my baby is sick? Or should DH be able to handle it for an evening? WWYD?

Is it selfish to still go when DS is sick at home?

TIA!!!::Chat Icon

ETA- DS is 3 1/2 years old if that makes a difference.

ETA Again- Just talked to MIL who took DS to ped. Has an ear infection and possible strep. Looks like strep but tested negative on the rapid test. Doesn't that mean he DOESN'T have strep? I'm so confused.

Go!!!! DH can "man-up" and handle having a sick child for an evening. Lord knows we Moms do it all the time.

Have fun!

I would feel bad too but I'm sure your DH is more than capable to take care of anything he needs to. Enjoy!

Re: Sick child and plans.........

go and feel no guilt

It won't be the last time.. I'm sure he's fine.

If it was some serious illness you wouldn't have asked I'm sure.

I think as long as you are comfortable with your DH being home with him I would definitely go. It isn't like you are leaving him all day long when he is extremely sick you are just going out for a few hours which you probably need. I don't think it is selfish.

Re: Sick child and plans.........

Thank you all so much. I think I'm going to go just waiting to hear back from my MIL who took him to the ped at 3:40. There was a confirmed case of mumps in his preschool last week so of course I'm paranoid about that. Which it's really weird since you have to show your proof of immunizations when you register there, but maybe you can still get it????????? I hope it's not that.........

No he can still have strep. I frequently get a negative on the rapid test but always get a positive on the long regular test. There are many doctors who refuse to do the rapid for that reason.

MY DH is great with the kids so I wouldn't hesitate. As long as you within a short distance if he needs you why not.

I went to the spa with my sister (who was in from out of town for only a couple of days) when my DD was very sick. Turned out she has the Swine Flu and DH handled it fine.

Go! Once he's on the meds for the ear infection he will start to feel better. Enjoy!

Liam had all the symptoms of strep and tested negative. The next day the fever broke and he broke out in a rash. Roseola. It can be contagious. For instance, i had a sore throat and a cold.. but, i never got the rash or fever.
