What's going on (sick child)?
Since Tuesday, Ryan was a little warm. He had a slight fever that morning so I gave him motrin. Since then, it's been ranging from 100.4-103. He's been up every night around 4:30AM burning up - so I give him the motrin, nurse him and put him back to bed. We assumed it was teething b/c he does have his fist in his mouth when he gets worked up and now the last 2 days he has had some really nasty explosive diapers.
Should I continue to assume he is cutting a tooth or could it be something else??

I would call your ped just to be safe. Anything over 101 makes me a bit uneasy. Hope he feels better soon.

Is he pulling on his ears at all?
There are so many things going around right now that I'd probably just bring him to the ped for a quick checkup to rule anything out!
Hope he's better soon!

No, I considered maybe it was an ear infection from the fevers but he isn't pulling on his ear, he's still eating like a champ, and he's a little tired/cranky but overall his demeanor is same as usual. He hasn't even had a cold lately which had had for a bit.

This was my thought too...Lucas never pulls on his ears but fevers and loose stools are my clue that I need his ears checked. You never know...I hope he feels better soon!

Re: What's going on (sick child)?
I usually find teething to come with a low grade fever - 100 or so.
Maybe he has a virus? 2 weeks ago, DD had a fever (as high as 104) for 5 days. It was a virus. Ended up with a double ear infection. Her symptoms sound like your DS's.
