Verizon FIOS
Any feedback? There is someone at our door, they just added on Bethpage and our Cablevision $99 special is due to expire next month. I know FIOS is pretty new but it seems like a good deal. Does anyone have any experience with them? Thanks!

Re: Verizon FIOS
I had Cablevision for years and the difference between Cablevision and FIOS similiar to the difference between home movies from the 60's and a DVD.
FIOS ROCKS........

I have it, and I honestly do not see such a big difference from Time Warner. And I don't think my internet is any faster.

Re: Verizon FIOS
I've had a guy at my door 2x this week trying to sell us that package. We're considering it. It's been in our area for some time now, but now they are pushing the sales.

Re: Verizon FIOS
We have FIOS but only for internet! I have found it to be very fast & very reliable! We didn't get the TV though as my DH & I love our directTV
Just be prepared if you do get the service, to be home a minimum of 6 hours for the installation!!!

Re: Verizon FIOS
I can't speak for the difference between the two but I heard FIOS does not carry all of the channels Cablevision does. So, if you're a TV watcher check to be sure all your favorite channels are available with FIOS.

My parents just got it and they were really happy with it!
They had the internet and phone previously and decided to make the switch for the tv as well.

FiOS has so many MORE channels than Cablevision. The only channel we don't get is News 12 since cablevision owns it.

Re: Verizon FIOS
We switched and I have just a few minor complaints.
On the cable side, their TV show info seems to be wrong a lot. I notice they often have a show listed and it's a different show playing
On the phone, I have one or 2 people who cannot get through on my line, they get a message that the phone # is disconnected. Verizon can't seem to figure out the problem which is annoying.
Overall though, they have a lot more channels even on their basic cable which is great.

Re: Verizon FIOS
When it works, the internet is very fast. Much faster than time warner.
However......... a) they spent six, yes six, hours here to install it b) they had to attach boxes to the wall and ran loads of wires across my freshly painted walls and drilled holes to the outside, which they left a mess c) the wireless router is awful. I lose connectivity about every 10 minutes. d) there's no way to know when the phone's not working
They're coming back tomorrow morning to check things out.
FIOS is DH's baby and he's even starting to get testy about it. For all the damage they did to my walls, they need to get it working!

Re: Verizon FIOS
I have had it for a year. Here are my thoughts: it took over 2 weeks to get it all hooked up correctly. Each time a new person came to fix it in the beginning they would tell me how wrong it was initially hooked up, they would re-do it and then the same would happen again. Lets just say it took a while to get it to work seemlessly.
The past 3 weeks I have lost dial-tone 7 times for over a day. I have been on the phone with verizon fios over 15 times. Apparently the network and fiber wires are very touchy. Yesterday I demanded to be hooked back up to copper because I can not loose anymore time sitting home without a dial tone waiting for these men to show up. Oh yeah and everytime someone shows up they tell me a different story. I am very annoyed right now.
So my thoughts are if you like to wait home for the verizon guy and like not to have a dialtone... go for it.
The internet seems to be fine, I don't see how it is faster though.
eta: It took them 9 hours to install it originally!! Then it took 3-4 hours each time for repairs!! Not to mention the 3 days of waiting home 8-6 with no one showing up!!

Sounds like my life story in the winter with Petro and our original boiler!
Thanks for all the opinions. I'm skeptical about it crapping out since I need access to work from home a lot.

if you have a qualilty TV and a clean computer you will see a major difference. The picture Quality much better.
Cablevision DL speed was around 6 Mbps, I now have FIOS and When I run the same Speedtest it is 21Mbps
