Verizon/Iphone- WWYD
So I am a free agent! I have been contract free for years with a crappy phone waiting for the Verizon Iphone to come out. But it hasn't.
So with the announcement of the new Iphone- and now annoucement about Verizon- I think I am giving up hope until 2012.
My phone recently broke- and someone lent me their old one- but I hate it. If the Verizon Iphone was coming this year, I'd hold off. But if its not coming out until 2012- then I'll just get the ATT Iphone and get another one in 2012.
So what should I do?

Re: Verizon/Iphone- WWYD
I heard AT&T & Apple signed a 5 years exclusivity contract when the iPad launched.
I have the iPhone & it really is the best phone I have ever had. I've been an AT&T customer for over 10 years, and I can honestly say I do not expierence dropped calls, limited service, etc.
My vote is for the iPhone obviously.

Why not get an iphone and jailbreak it? Once you do that, you can connect it to any network.
It's not hard to do.

FM me if you have any interest because I have access to better plans than the average consumer.

Connect to any GSM network.
That means in the U.S. your only other option is using the iPhone on T-Mobile. Verizon does not run GSM so jailbreaking the iPhone will not get you on Verizon.
Also with T-Mobile, using a jailbroken iPhone on TMO will not give you 3G service. Only Edge.

I want an iphone badllllly but I am a verizon customer and have been forever so I am reluctant to switch. I just got the Droid Incredible until the iphone comes to verizon (whenever that is!) and so far it is pretty awesome. I think its the perfect substitute. I might even like it a little better than the iphone

Honestly I wouldn't be so quick to get service on it anyways unless the phone is totally dead, doesn't turn on.
If you get your phone serviced, Apple will usually put the latest software on there which will prevent you from re-applying the jailbreak.
So I wouldn't be asking for service unless I felt they need to totally replace the phone.

I've had AT&T service for as long as I can remember and I've never had problems with it. I'd get the iPhone.

Yea you can... IF it doesn't turn in to a BRICK or a paper weight first.
Most jail broke phones eventually lock up and become a pretty paper weight.

Don't know if this helps anyone's decision but you can switch to AT&T as a new customer right now and get 3rd generation i phone for free with service agreement.
Still debating my decision over here- I have a contract with Verizion until December 6th. AT&T service stinks in my area though

I am not sure where you are getting this info from. There are tons of forums out there that discuss jailbreaking and most phones don't eventually become paper weights.
The only phones that become paperweights are maybe people that don't know what they are doing when it comes to modifying the phone.
I have had no problems with my jailbroken 3gs for the year I have had it. My boss jailbroke his original iPhone, his iPhone 3G, his iPhone 3gs, AND his iPad. Never an issue.
Oh one other benefit of jailbreaking, you can probably sell your iPhone for more than what you paid for it. My jailbroken iPhone 3gs will easily get me $450-500 on ebay as that is what the market demands for one. I paid $299 for it.
So my upgrade to the iPhone 4 will essentially be... free.

Actually you can only use an iphone in the US on AT&T or Tmobile because Verizon phones do not work on the same network.
I have an Iphone and I have T-mobile. I Jailbroke and unlocked myself and just bought my DH one as well.

Also, most people who have jailbroken phones did not jailbreak them themselves...their really is NO WAY to completely brick an iphone...you can lose all your info, sure...but if you update with itunes regularly everything is backed up....if the phone becomes "bricked" as most people think it is, you just have to restore the phone and start over...most people dont do this though. Lots of threads online on how to fix a bricked iphone.
