I got a save the date once, then no invitation.
It was a weird situation though - it was a friend thru college, we think the new bride to be didn't like DH and I, even though we'd go out to dinner monthly and seemingly have a good time. We are thinking the second they were close to being over in # or $$ she nixxed us.
Oh well, no gift for them.

are there other wedding related posts on FB? if so, then I would think that this weekend is a bigger ceremony.
if not, then maybe they are just going to the JOP and will still have the wedding in June. they could be having a civil ceremony now for insurance reasons, etc.

WHAT??? That is SO WRONG in many ways. IF they had to cut people they should have contacted your DH and said they were so sorry, but because of the situation they had to only invite family and a couple of close friends. That would have been the proper thing to do.

Something somewhat similar happend to my DH, although he was contacted by the groom. The groom told DH that the place couldn't fit enough people, or something like that. DH wasn't hurt until he found out that EVERYONE in his circle of friends was invited, except him. Then he was upset.
My DH decided to not do anything. I guess in your case, if it is DH's friend, it is up to him to say something if he wants to. Keep us posted with the facebook update!

I think they should have contacted (if this is the case) anyone they could not invite due to costs/space. I would expect the same.

I scanned the thread, and that was the first thing that came to mind.
If not, then,yes, I'd be very upset.
Even if they changed their plans for any reason and aren't having a big wedding now, the RIGHT thing to do would be to let the friends and people who came to your engagement party know that you are no longer able to have a big wedding. It's not about the OP not understanding that there could be a valid reason for all this - it's about the fact that it's rude to say NOTHING to your friends who are anticipating your wedding this June!
How do you know they aren't JOPing it this week and having a big wedding in June? Just playing Devil's Advocate
DH and I were going to get married by the JOP while we were engaged and had our wedding planned, and we probably would have let it out on FB or myspace as well....
We don't know the whole story, there could be a plethora of reasons as to why they haven't said much at this point.
I wouldn't get upset until you KNOW what is going on

A couple of small things to update, but we still really don't know what the story actually is ...
#1 - Bride responded on our friend's FB wall:
"[Groom] will explain how are you doing miss you give us a call some time"
So far no word from the groom though ... 
#2 - Bride's most recent status update says:
"... getting ready to leave 2 days and 12 hours left till its time :)"

DH does not want to call them.
He's not much of a phone person to begin with, and in this instance he feels pretty strongly that the groom will call or contact him when he's ready to explain.
And at that point DH will see what the groom has to say ... and then decide how he feels about it.
THIS is why I'm really glad that DH's other friend is also involved -- I think we're more likely to find things out that way, cause he doesn't mind opening his mouth when necessary

agree.. very weird.. sounds like Groom and Bride are on different pages.. one confronts the message and the bride ignores it and posts like people who arent invited didnt see it.. Guess it was her decision who to invite and who not too.
