I would be annoyed also... However, I always bring at least 2 extra goody bags because you never know who will show up...

I don't think the mom was that out of line.

She paid for the daughter herself. You can't blame a child for asking for food they like or waiting for a goodybag - they're kids! They don't get what's going on and probably don't know if they were invited or not. The mom's response to the goody bag seemed nice. She didn't make a passive aggressive comment. IDK, maybe I'm in the minority but besides this being an ongoing issue for that mom (although the other parties don't really affect your party.. KWIM?) the mom didn't do anything too terribly wrong. Maybe her husband was working and she HAD to bring both children or just not come? Did you check your email again to make sure she didn't email you after you had previously checked it?

We have often had unexpected guests at parties, but once they're there... might as well make them feel welcome. It wasn't the little girl's fault IMO.

I agree. I think you are making a mountain out a molehill.

I would be annoyed as well and would not have given her the goody bag either. I never make extra goody bags. I always make them extra special so I like to know exactly who is coming and how many I will need. I probably would have said something to the mother along the lines "you have done this before, you should know better". Some people are so ballsy!

the only thing I would be anooyed at thru the whole situation would be the "teasing" of the younger kids part. That I would have said something about. Everything else... I wouldnt have.

I agree! Sometimes parents are in a bind and have to bring other kids - she paid for her. With repect to the RSVP thing, yes that is annoying but I have had emails (even work emails) that I could have sworn I sent only to find them lingering in my drafts box so I usually give people the benefit of the doubt.

As for the goody bags - I ALWAYS make extras because you just never know.

This.
AJ's party its months away and I am expecting this to happen. Already planning on extra guests and bags.

This is the main reason I hate having school parties for my kids. The parents are not considerate at all. Last year DS was in K and I invited his whole class. There were I think 23 children. I had to call 20 families because 3 responded!

I don't think you were wrong at all and if that situation happened at my party, I actually think my DH would be more annoyed than me.

I don't think you did anything wrong.

I would have paid for her from the get-go because I don't have an issue with siblings but given her attitude towards you, I could see why you would have had her pay for her child.

I also don't blame the kid for asking but if it were my kid, I would not have felt comfortable with her getting a goody bag. I would have thought the food situation was fine.

She's 7 - & old enough to get that she wasn't invited to the party.

i guess i am in the minority but maybe that is just because I'm very laid back and i have a 'the more the merrier' mentality, especially when it comes to kids. that being said, i do understand how the situation was annoying. I had a similar thing happen to me last year at DS party (minus the taunting though). The uninvited guest was so happy to be there and the dad later explained to me that he was going through a divorce and that the mom got the invite and since he had the kids that weekend thought he should repond and he didn't have a babysitter so he had to bring the daughter...very long winded but I guess what I'm trying to say is you don't know peoples situation.
People are rude but she paid for her child and the slice of pizza she had probably didn't mean that anyone else at the party went hungry. Just trying to throw a different perspective out there, that's all.
