Re: We get the Point.....
Here are my suggestions:
-I sent Ron an FM about putting up a locked post on PM's. Now considering it has been done before, well the more people who send him FM... the better. So send away people! -If that doesn't work, than if we all work together (not against) and start a topic with maybe a poll to having this kind of post permanent & maybe he'll respond once he sees how many people want this to occur. -Like i've suggested before, why don't you ladies put together your points, research and perspectives into one large post. And if it means that much to you, then bump the post each day if Ron won't lock the post. This way it will be there for everyone to read- every day.
*I just think that you should pick and choose your battles here ladies. If someone has already purchased a dog from a pet store, than there is NO reason to go on and on about how pm's are bad, cruel, etc. It only makes that person feel like cr*p and turns them off of this board because they feel like they're being attacked when they only wanted to share their joy. If you want to educate them, then send them a FM. Isn't that what everyone says... if you have an issue, send a FM? But when numerous people respond about how bad pm's are and how naive they're being, well you're not educating anyone because you'll be too busy leaving a bad taste in their mouth for them to listen.
Educating someone before they get a puppy or when they ask where to get a new puppy is fine. But if they've already got one, it just is making that person feel really small and we're not here to do that to others, are we?
Look, i am a huge animal lover and i hate PM's as much as the next person. It is a horrible horrible thing. No one is denying that. But listen to your fellow posters when they're trying to tell you that there is a point of too much and that sometimes, enough is enough. And i mean truly listen because it doesn't seem like you're doing too much of that. You just come off defensive every time.
That's all i'm saying.

I agree!!!!!!!!
Ladies, If someone comes on here to GET a pet, yes educate them, give them #'s and websites, WHY because they are asking for advice on where to get their pet. But, if someone comes on here saying "I just got a new Pet" and you can not turn back time obviously, then why educate them after the fact??? Make them feel they did something wrong by giving a loving animal a home, bringing joy to thier life now, etc.. So now every time I look at my Puppy or someone else does, they have to feel guilty for accepting a gift or paying for a certain breed they wanted, etc..
They can read the 100 posts on here about Puppy Mills and the disgusting abuse these animals go through. We all agree, we are all pet lovers or we would not be on here!
No one is saying "You are all wrong"
I am sure that when educating people, your intent is to not turn them away from this board and it seems that is what is happening here.
Should LIF put these topis on the top for everyone to see YES, I think this animal abuse needs to be stopped, but again everyone does not need to mention this in every post.
Sorry to get heated, I am just trying to state that no one is telling anyone they are wrong, no one is saying they dont care about these issues either.

Whether you girls are seeing it or not, this is true. What you're doing ("educating") is turning away people from this board because your approach is all wrong. Maybe finding a different approach would benefit everyone!
You sure are quick to tell us we're wrong, but aren't so quick to tell us how to do it correctly. Care to enlighten us?

I was trying to help and instead of recognizing that, you'd rather just insult. That's what you're all about isn't it??? So you can take your snide comments and find someone else to pick on. If you ask me, it's quite sad.

Re: We get the Point.....
I was thinking about this thread and all the posts that were written. I am not sure where the original debate even stemmed from. I think it was a post a week or two ago where someone had received a puppy as a gift. If I remember correctly, everyone gave a congrats, and a few people (maybe only 1?) posted anything about pet stores or puppy mills. Since then there have been other posts by people defending their choice of puppy store dogs. On those posts, more education was presented. Then some people posted just about the atrocities of puppy mills. There were maybe 3 threads in the past two weeks. I don't understand what the problem is. I don't think the issue is being beaten upon anyone's heads. Its not like everytime someone asks about their puppy the responses are "well, did you get your dog from a pet store, because if you did I will not answer you and you are an evil person." If this was the case, I could understand some of the animosity that is going on here. But no one ever does this. When ANYONE has a question about their pet, everyone on here is helpful and supportive. If someone asks about getting a dog, many will beg that person not to buy from a pet store and might give some info on puppy mills. Where is the problem here?

I'm adding my .02 as a lurker and very few but sometime poster...
Would it be possible to email Ron and Co. to see if they could a pin a thread to the top of the board that says something to the effect of: "If you are thinking about getting a dog, please read this first" This post could have all the necessary information regarding puppy mills on it plus other helpful info about breeders and anything else you could think of.
Maybe that could be an option? There have been a few threads of this nature that we have suggested be pinned. I am not sure why it hasn't happened .
In addition to the PM info, there was also a huge thread (I think Jes posted) about how to find a reputable breeder & make sure you are not supporting a BYB. I think all of these would fit well into one general thread with the above-mentioned title. ETA: recently there have also been issues about how to train a puppy, how to find a good vet, and total costs of bringing a dog into your home. I think it would be great to put it all in one place.

Re: We get the Point.....
I also want to point out that some people were criticised for posting about PMs in a thread that was *supposed* to be to congratulate someone for getting a pet. A poster on that thread recommended that a more subtle approach would be to bump up some PM threads rather than introduce that info into the new thread.....so that is what happened.

I have an idea....how about STOP breading the dogs! I do not understand why we as humans need to breed animals that are pets!
Maybe if the want for a dog that is a certain breed stops....then the puppy mills will stop!
Why not get a mutt???

understandable...but this the only forum you post on...I checked your posts and it seems as though you use this as your outlet to tell people what they can and cannot do with their dogs...in my opinion...it's enough...you will get further with abolishing Puppy Mills and BYB if you lobby your legislators than posting 209 replys on a Family website. It's a turnoff really and people don't take your suggestions seriously because they cannot see past the force feeding crap. JMHO.

I have to disagree. If someone feels guilty about purchasing a dog from a pet store, that comes from within.
Prior to my being educated on the topic, my DH and I purchased a puppy from a pet store. Had my sister and coworker not shared their education about puppymills upon my telling them we bought a puppy, I still might not know. As has been stated by numerous people before me...The one that doesn't learn from history, is bound to repeat it ...
There is nothing wrong with sharing facts with someone after the fact. That is how we learn and grow. Nothing about being told facts after purchasing a puppy should make a person feel small. I would think that it would make that person angry for not being given full disclosure and sold an inferior product/puppy.
I think the way that most of the posters go about sharing their information about puppymills is very considerate of others. And as I have said previously, if just ONE person walks away from a thread discussing puppymills and doesn't buy a puppy - that saves one litter from being born.
