Re: Wedding horror stories?
One of the best weddings I ever attended was my cousin's. It was upstate at a BBQ restaurant, in a mostly outdoor area. The weather was terrible, it rained then it was super humid and overcast. The place was very casual, cash bar but it fit the bride and grooms style. The bride word a short white dress that was not a bridal dress, the bridal party wore whatever they picked. The groom wore jeans and a nice shirt and vest. Attire was casual for guests too. In spite of it not being your typical over the top NY wedding it was so much fun, the bride did a lot of adorable DIY stuff that matched the rustic feel and even though it was gross out we danced for hours and had a blast.
One of the most unfortunate weddings was my good friends. It was a big LI wedding, planned every detail for perfection. Her Mom looked so miserable from the beginning of the ceremony and I think that stressed the couple out. The family hired a live band that was supposed to play some music from their culture but also function as a DJ during breaks to play American dance music. Well it was like the band completely forgot about this. They literally had one dance track ( without vocals like it was the karaoke version) they played over and over. The bride became obsessed with this and spent most if the reception crying and trying to get it fixed. We did our best to have fun anyway but we all felt terrible for her.
But the absolute worst was another cousins LI wedding, well planned in a big well known catering hall. my cousin has always been a bit of black sheep and we all love his wife, it's amazing she can put up with him. 15 minutes into reception the grooms aunt ( that was supposed to dance with him in his mothers place) fell out of the rented photo booth and broke her shoulder, had to be taken away by ambulance. 15 minutes before the reception ended my mom was walking past the dance floor to put her card in the box and another cousin hip checked her, knocking her off her feet. She broke her hip so the same EMTs came back to take her to the same emergency room. I went in the ambulance with my mom but found out the following day that our great-aunt slipped getting into her car and broke her wrist, but she flew back to Florida the next morning without saying anything because she felt bad for the bride. It's a wedding we will never forget!

Re: Wedding horror stories?
Not a horror story, but we flew to Mississippi to attend a close friends wedding. The place was a beautiful old mansion...so pretty. But they had about 400 guests and one big table that had cheese and crackers and veggies. That was the only food. 2 tiny bars that took about 1/2 hour for one drink. We all drove to get fast food the second it was over because everyone was starving. I couldn't believe this is how the wedding was done. And it was funny bc one of the guests said to me "See THIS is how you do a wedding. No offense but those New York style weddings are so over the top and tacky, this is the way to do it". ummm, ok!

Pennsylvania wedding where the YMCA was performed in full on costume by the bridal party and the 45 year old shirtless MC was grinding on a 70 yr old guest whilst she shouted "what happens in gettysburg stays in Gettysburg!"

Re: Wedding horror stories?
I went to a wedding when I was 16 with my family. It was at local fire department and the wedding was horrendous. You had to buy soda for your table if you wanted it. Only water was offered. The worst part was the one man band. This guy played keyboard and sang so out of tune. We ended up leaving early because we couldn't take the guy singing it was like nails on the chalk board!!

At a wedding I went to last year, a waiter dropped a tray filled with plates of pasta on the floor and the bride got sauce all over her dress. Once that happened, other waiters started dropping things left and right. But the wedding itself was one of the best I've ever been to despite that happening.
I was gonna post about this too lol. They dropped the huge tray right on top of my husbands seat. He was in the bathroom at the time. Plates hit a girl at my table in the head. I didn't even know the bride got covered until after. Then they broke our centerpiece. If it was anyone other than the bride it was they would've lost their shit!!

The real question would be of these wedding horror stories, are the couples still married? lol
Nope, divorced. This one was at a catering hall here on Long Island. Hot, beastly hot day in the summer, humid and nasty. The groom halfway falls into the water (off of a pier). Right after the main reception starts in the big room, the lights go out. And they never.came.back.on It was hot as hell, dark, and the poor waitstaff was bumping into each other and they couldn't see what they were serving. The guests all tried to stick it out for the couple, but they were crying and getting drunker and drunker... then all of a sudden the BM comes out yelling that the bridal party's envelopes and stuff had been stolen from the room. A fight broke out, people were yelling... I felt so bad for them.

Re: Wedding horror stories?
Guests began murmuring during the reception, asking where he bride was. She hadn't been seen for a good hour, if not longer. Turns out she was in the bridal suite, passed out. She mixed Xanax with shots and ended up vomiting all over her gown before passing out on the couch. Somehow she managed to make it to the cake cutting.. with vomit on her stunning gown.

I didnt attend this wedding, but my friend told me She went to a wedding for her husbands cousin -- during the reception they passed around a solo cup and asked for everyone to "donate a couple bucks so the newlyweds could stay at the mariott for the night"

Re: Wedding horror stories?
We went to a wedding in OK. It was a nice church. DH is from Nashville so he went to his share of weird weddings with no dancing or music allowed (Church of Christ) and warned me the food would be sparse. Most of his friends had a buffet. So I was cool with that and thought that sounded great.
So we do the church thing and it was beautiful. I did notice the BM's didn't have their dresses altered and thought that was weird.
Get to the reception. There is non-alcoholic punch and water. No soda.
Ok fine.
Cocktail hour.. cheese and mini quiches.. still more than I expected.
Before I know it we are eating cake and are out the door.
I was SO hungry.
Everyone was fussing over where to send the NYer's to eat like we were some food snobs. They send us to this place that literally had testicles on the menu. The food was awful. Awful. SO bad. No one ate it.
The next day we ran into the bride and groom in the airport and they asked where we had dinner (could you imagine asking people where they had dinner..after your wedding). We told them and the bride says.. Oh nice!! That is the BEST place in town!!!

This reminds me of a bad wedding my parents attended. It was for a cousin in Washington Dc. The waiter dropped a huge bowl of Russian dressing on top of my mom. Thankfully she was staying at the hotel. She went upstairs, showered and changed into another dress. She had brought two because she could not decide which to wear. The hotel reimbursed her dry cleaning, but her antique bag was ruined.

Re: Wedding horror stories?
i went to a wedding out of state. first clue should have been that we had to preorder our meal 3 months in advance. second was that i was the only one drinking while getting my hair done. no one else believed in drinking before a wedding. get to the reception and i see presents on table. okay. go up to bar and ask for drink. bartender says okay that will be $5. dh and i carried no money with us, a couple of singles and a credit cards. we were on vacation for this wedding. member of the wedding party runs up to me and puts a corsage on dh and i's outfits. open bar for people with a flower on. then go to the cocktail hour to cheese and fruit plates surrounded by swarms of bugs. sit down to eat, thankfully they had prearranged seating. dh ordered beef. it was black when it came out. it was horrible. drove home to hunt down a fast food place open. couple is still married.
a week before this wedding we went to a long island wedding. a week before the wedding bride's family drops out of wedding party.. about 3 bridesmaids.. which means 30 people refuse to come ot the wedding. fight over where to get ready. wedding is okay. pours so all pictures have to be taken indoors. get to the cocktail hour and it is in the same room as reception room. 30 people that said they were not coming show up and catering hall had to rush to get table settings for them, squashed in a small room. should have seen this coming later for the baby shower since 20 people randomly showed up for baby shower and the room was small. this marriage is almost over.

Re: Wedding horror stories?
NJ Wedding. An old friend.
They were on a budget...but things were so bizzare.....(and for "a budget") it was ok.
1. Wedding was on the grounds of a landscaper. Would have been nice if it was just not in the middle of a random lawn. It was not "landscaped". just a lawn.
2. The lawn was SOAKED. It had rained the day before, and the lawn was a swamp. Everyone shoes got wet, it was a mess.
3. The ceremony was BIZZARE. So the groom came down with a sword and PLANTED IT at the front. (he was so proud of himself). We were never told what the significance was). Then the groomsman came down. And about 20 min later the bride came......we sat for 20 min. The groom and groomsmen were at the alter. All waiting. For 20 min.
4. During the ceremony is where the parents met. The officiate called the parents up, and in a VERY awkward way they all "hi im Larrys mom" etc. SUPPER weird.
5. And then at the end of the ceremony we had a sing a long. The words to "do you hear the people sing" were printed on our programs, and we were all asked to join in on a sing along.
We were not told the significance of that either.
6. The favors were chocolate gum "pop".
7. The dance floor was AWEFUL. It was one of those fold up things. But not only was it too small, because it was on waterlogged grass it was uneven.
Still very happily married.

Wedding horror stories?
the worst wedding I have ever been to was actually at my wedding venue!!
DH and I got married at a well-known reception hall, and had a big wedding, about 230 guests. Room is HUGE, so if you don't have a large guest count, the room can look empty. We filled the room nicely, where people had room to sit/stand/dance, but weren't so far apart from each other that it looked empty. Food was great, lots of dancing, crazy drunk family members, etc etc etc. It was a very fun night.
Shortly after our wedding, we attended a wedding at the same place. There were under 130 people, and it looked SO EMPTY. There was no alcohol, and no bartender at all. The couple does not drink. They are very religious, and they wanted a dry wedding as a result. There were literally pitchers of soda sitting on the bar and that was it. Additionally, the DJ was monitored by the father of the groom, and when the DJ played that song "wiggle" (the one that goes "you know what to do with that big fat butt" lolol), the father had a heart attack and stopped the DJ in the middle of the song!!! The bridal party came out to the music from "Frozen." We had liquor in the car, knowing it would be a dry wedding, and the father was spying at us from the window as we took shots of fire ball from the trunk. He looked at us with disapproving eyes the whole night. SO awkward!!!! Nobody was dancing at the wedding, and we just sat there the whole night at our table. We left right after cake cutting.
Food was excellent, though.
Such a night and day difference between the two weddings.
Just further proves that a venue does NOT make the reception- it's about the food, music, and crowd!

Wedding horror stories?
I forgot about the first disaster wedding we went to! I was 19 DH was 20, and I didn't know that oos weddings were different, lol. Young and stupid. The church was very simple and the mob/MOG were just wearing short dresses you can get at dress barn. Should have been a clue. I just thought they would change for the reception. ..wrong. Of course, we get there and DH goes to the bar and the man hands him a drink and says, $3 please. We had 3 singles, that's it. I was wondering where the food was for the cocktail hour since the wedding started...none. the guests were wearing sundresses, khakis and boat shoes! Yes, presents on the table while DH and I had put $150 in a card! We sat at the table and waited and waited...no food, no music. About 1/2 hour later these trays of food were wheeled onto the dance floor, and I whispered to DH, oh I guess the cocktail hour is in here. I quickly found out it was dinner! Rolls, salad, sliced turkey in gravy, and mashed potatoes. That's it. Like a cafeteria. Gross...the music didn't start until dinner was over, and the DJ barely said a word all afternoon. They also did one of those dances where the people pay to dance with the bride and groom! Since we used up our singles on a drink...no dance lol. I wanted my $100 back I was so mad I licked the envelope shut We went to cracker Barrel right after the that in our nice clothes! I should have known when I walked into the room and the centerpieces were balloons that this was going to be an "interesting" wedding.

Wedding horror stories?
Worst wedding I have ever been too..I was the maid of honor for a childhood friend of my DH after she burnt through her first 4.. yes 4 MOHs...It was at a VFW and they catered it from a local deli type place that served hot food. The server they hired at the event was completely overwhelmed by the amount of people that she left in the middle of the event... so I had to jump behind the food line in my dress and help serve food because people where making such a mess! It was a nightmare! I hated even having to go to that wedding, I only said yes to MOH out of pity for the brides Mom!

Nothing as bad as some of you have attended- but the worst was a wedding we went to about an hour outside of Boston. Cash bar and the food wasn't very good. I don't remember there being music/dancing either.

Soooooooo inappropriate. In fact, I can't think of a single song from that play that is appropriate for a wedding.
