Were/are you the type of mom
that had to have the house quiet when your baby was sleeping/trying to sleep or did you act normal and make regular noise?
To answer my own question... I made noise and got Jared use to the everyday noises.

It depends- On a rough day when she is having difficulty sleeping, I am anal about too much noise. But normally- not.

Re: Were/are you the type of mom
Its much better for a baby to hear a lot of noise in the begining, so when the baby is out at a family or friends house they will be able to sleep right through any noise going on, (better for the mom too).
I come from a large family and Julia heard a lot of noise right away, and till this day she can still fall asleep in a room full of people right on my lap--lol

Re: Were/are you the type of mom
MY son was always a poor sleeper and any little noise bothered him, still does. Even the nurses in the nursery couldn't get over how little he slept. He was the troublemaker, waking all the good little babies up. So to soothe him he listens to music while sleeping, and yes I often tried to be quiet so I could get a little peace. I think no matter what you do, babies are just different and you have to deal with them all differently.

I was a quiet mom, loud all day and super quiet at night, other than the dog-barking...

Alot of noise. I even vacuum around her.
My son is the best sleeper. I used to have to wake him up when he was 2/3 years old because he would sleep until 11-12.

So does that mean that for a period of months he woke up to noises, but you kept on making noises and dealing with a overtired baby? Or do you mean that you made noise from the beginning and he just always slept through it?
I started out intending to be noisy but started being quiet when way too many naps got ended way too soon!

My DD was a poor sleeper too so I tend to be on the quieter side. I do play soft music & the sound machine until she falls asleep. Then after she is sleeping I just keep the sound machine on white noise.

That means that I wouldn't turn off the ringer on my phone or tip toe around the house. Jared always slept through everything.

Re: Were/are you the type of mom
Miranda is a fairly light sleeper in the beginning and end of her naps so I try not to make noise depending on where she is in her sleep. It doesn't bother me though because her nap times are my time to relax and unwind a bit. But if I need to vaccuum or do laundry I will do it but I honestly try to most noise making things while she's awake. At night she sleeps better so we don't worry too much about noise but I do make DH be quiet in the morning because again as she's nearing the end of her sleep she wakes up very easily. We do have the ringers off upstairs but I can hear them downstairs. To me having her sleep well and be rested is top on my list. I also don't feel like I made her this way. I had to figure out this is the kind of baby she was and work around it.

Re: Were/are you the type of mom
He wasn't a good napper and everything would wake him up so even though I tried to noisey it didn't work out for us. He doesnt wake up to the phone, landscapers or outside noise. I also cant stand loud noise so that did help us much. I think baby #2 will be better and get use to the noise with DS around.

Re: Were/are you the type of mom
Lots of noise, lights on, music, tv etc - during the day when he falls asleep- at night, we keep it dark and quiet - maybe thats his problem with sleeping at night!

Re: Were/are you the type of mom
I vacuum, watch TV, have music on, etc. Nothing wakes her during the day. We went to Sam's, Target and BRU today and she slept the entire time. At night I sometimes leave the TV on because I think it's too quiet and that's why she is having a hard time falling asleep after eating.

Thats what I figured. I'm guessing that you didn't create the situation, you were simply lucky to have a child that sleep deeply.
This sort of stuff hits a nerve with me since my daughter has always been a light sleeper. (And we lived originally on a busy street with constant noise.) I don't think you can make your child sleep through noise if they aren't wired to do so.

Re: Were/are you the type of mom
From the minute we brought Ryan home we had the TV on, people talking, etc. I never wanted to tip toe around my house when he was asleep. To this day, a bomb can go off and he will stay sleeping.

Re: Were/are you the type of mom
We make lots of noise - TV is always on, dustbuster, phone ringing, etc. However, once they are down at night - we are respectful of a good night's sleep (just as if we were sleeping) so we try to limit the noise.

Re: Were/are you the type of mom
When I was home on maternity leave, during the day I'd keep the TV on, but since it was just me home it wasn't really that noisy. At night, of course, lights are dim and the house is much quieter.
Now that DD is at daycare during the day, she's exposed to lots of noise and activity during the day. She naps MUCH better at home on weekends than she does at daycare.

Re: Were/are you the type of mom
Very noisy. Always. And it doesn't help that our bedrooms are on the same floor as our LR, DR and kitchen. With Andrew, we would vacuum, have TV on, do dishes, etc. and he was and still is an excellent sleeper. He slept through the thunder the other night that woke both DH and I!
Lauren will also sleep through anything. I am just amazed at how she could sleep so soundly through a few of Andrew tantrums at night (their rooms are next to each other and share a wall).
Nothing can wake my kids.
