Re: Were/are you the type of mom
I attempted to be noisy from the beginning- but the sleep issues were so bad that I was forced to try and be quiet so she would sleep for any amount of time.

Re: Were/are you the type of mom
I make noise. The only thing that DS truly hates (even when awake) is the Dirt Devil vacuum. He doesn't mind our regular canister one (will sleep right through it) but the Dirt Devil scares the heck out of him.

Always made lots of noise (we have 2 dogs). DD is very adaptable and now can fall asleep anywhere.

Roman pretty much slept anywhere so he got used to regular noises, the dog barking, phone ringing etc.

Re: Were/are you the type of mom
We were always quiet. Jacob always had sleeping issues since birth and so I made sure it was quiet in order for him (and ME) to get some shuteye.
Now, I am able to make a little more noise and he will sleep thru it. My next door neighbor has 5 Harley Davidsons and Jacob seems to be sleeping thru the revving up of them! So I guess its getting better..

Re: Were/are you the type of mom
I went about my usual business, in the beginning making sure to make normal noise.
But as time goes on with just him and I in the house and me working on the computer it would be quiet by default.
Either way he can sleep through noise or quiet.

I didn't make noise on purpose, but I didn't try to avoid it. Both the boys can sleep through a vacuum running, dog barking and phone ringing.

Re: Were/are you the type of mom
We try to make noise while Noah sleeps, but to be honest, we really like the quiet ourselves, so we try to be quiet. He can sleep with everyday noise, phone riging, pots clanging, plates clanking (like when I cook dinner)But for instance, he is napping now, so we are just being quiet because quiet feels nice.

Re: Were/are you the type of mom
No, we definitely do not leave the house quiet. I continue my normal activities and even have my loud friends over on weekends and she's fine with it. However, if I'm IN the room, she instantly wakes up. Go figure.

Re: Were/are you the type of mom
I always continued life as usual while mykids were napping.
My oldest is a great sleeper in all conditions, my younger is hit or miss. Sometimes the sound of the ice maker in my refrigerator wakes him up, from across the house!

Re: Were/are you the type of mom
we had the radio on or a tv on in the background from the day Jack was born. I still leave a radio on in his room every night. He can fall aslepp anywhere and pretty much sleep through anything....it's great!
this, by the way, was one of the best pieces of advice I got before Jack was born.

that had to have the house quiet when your baby was sleeping/trying to sleep or did you act normal and make regular noise?
To answer my own question... I made noise and got Jared use to the everyday noises.
At the beginning, being a new mom I thougth the house had to be quiet and we had to tip toe around. But about a month into being a mom... I realized I must be crazy to be that way. We will never be able to live that way, besides she should be able to get used to it. And, so, she did and sleeps through all the noise I make all day. Also, it makes it easier to check on her at night. In the beginning we couldn't becuase she would wake up and I never felt comfy not checking on her at all. Now it is not a problem.

Re: Were/are you the type of mom
Once he's asleep I can make noise but for him to get to sleep it needs to be pretty quiet or he fights it and gets overtired. During the day I make noise though, if he wakes up usually he falls back to sleep, usually...
At night, once he's asleep we're quiet and tend to keep quiet.

Re: Were/are you the type of mom
Nope, definately don't have to have the house quiet. Sometimes if he is having trouble falling asleep I make sure it's quiet for a few minutes, but once I see he is really sleeping, we go about our business.

Re: Were/are you the type of mom
DS spent his first couple of nights in the NICU (nothing major, just stabilization issues), so he started off with lots of activity, beeping from everywhere, soft lights on all the time, etc. We always wanted to do that anyway. You can't guarantee that a place will be absolutely quiet, so it's better to have them used to noise. Now, with DD having a 4yo in the house, there is no such thing as "quiet time"....

when Jacob was first born, we tiptoed around the house when he was sleeping. He is now used to noises and sleeps through it since he started daycare.

noise. When we brought him home from the hospital, we were having our bathroom re-done so he slept through construction on the house.

Re: Were/are you the type of mom
With Patrick I was stupid enough to be quiet.
But, with the girls & of course having a big brother who could only stay quiet when HE's sleeping we had noise. They can sleep thru anything really.
