What age did you start to take the bottle away?
My son is 16 months. I'm expecting #2 in about 3 months. I was thinking of starting to get rid of the bottle and only use sippy cups before his bro or sis arrives. Is it too soon? I'm so unsure what to do. Thanks

Re: What age did you start to take the bottle away?
I tried at 12 months and it did NOT go well. (Picture a drug addict going through withdrawals, no joke) We tried again around 15 months and she had no issues at all.
I really think it's a matter of when they are ready. Because when we did it at 15 months she didn't even make one fuss. Just one day- no more bottles. And not a peep out of her. Yet at 12 months she obviously wasn't ready and it was a living nightmare.

Every kid is different, I took DD's away at 12 months when she switched to table food/regular milk and she never looked back.. she thought she was soooo cool walking around with her sippy...

Re: What age did you start to take the bottle away?
I don't remember when we tried originally didn't work at all.
Finally about a week and a half ago (at 20 months) I said thats it. We took away all bottles during the day (and she was still having alot of milk per day).
We still give her one at night before bed, only because after all this time, it seems to be the only thing we could do to get her to sleep through the night
I am going to try and take that last one away again in a few weeks to see what happens.
**she doesn't drink anything else but milk...everyone once and a while she will drink a tiny bit of water.

Re: What age did you start to take the bottle away?
DD1-she was off by 12 months. DS-I think around the same time DD2-going through it right now, you would think I never did this before because I can't figure it out. She is 15 months and down to 2 a day, before nap and bedtime. We are trying to cut the nap one and then will work on the bedtime one.
I think the general guideline is to start to get them off the bottle at 12 months.

Re: What age did you start to take the bottle away?
Baby just turned 1 and just starting eating table food. he sees the other babies at day care with sippy cups and he likes our cups too so he has been using sippy during the day past few days - he just wants it it seems.. This morning I didnt even give him the bottle - just sippy (he did drink less than he normally would though) He doesn't like all the sippy cups i've tried - it took a while to find the "right one" ..does your baby ever use a sippy or only bottle? does she ever reach out to your cup? No harm trying now and seeing how it goes. good luck!

Re: What age did you start to take the bottle away?
DD was off bottles by her first birthday, so IMO it's not too soon to try, but each kid is different. Cold turkey worked for us.

Re: What age did you start to take the bottle away?
My first daughter was about 18m when we took it away. It was pure hell for 3 days. She was completely addicted to it and it was a terrible transition lol but of course she eventually got over it.
My second daughter didn't care very much for bottles so eventually gave them up around 15-16m

Took away the bottles at 10 months. She had been drinking water from a cup for a while before that. Gave her milk in the cup one day and never looked back.

Re: What age did you start to take the bottle away?
At, I think 15 months, we went cold turkey. DD was annoyed for a day or two but had no choice but to deal with sippy cups all the time. I didn't want to waste time with a slow transition, I saw no point. I just told her the bottles were going and that was that. So much easier IMO than dragging it out.

At 18 months I went cold turkey! The first few days were a struggle to get her to drink her milk but she eventually gave in.

Re: What age did you start to take the bottle away?
18 months. It was a little struggle but not so bad. I was newly pregnant with #2 and wanted her off them sooner rather than later. I will say though she has had NO milk since that last bottle. Will not take a sip even now at 2.5.

Re: What age did you start to take the bottle away?
Sean was 18 months ....not a problem. He didn't really have a strong preference for the bottle over the cup - he just wanted the milk
Colin is 20 months and he's going to be a problem b/c sometimes he asks for 'milk' which means the cup is acceptable, and other times he specifically wants the bottle and tells me, and has a fit if I give him the cup instead - He'll probably be 2.

Re: What age did you start to take the bottle away?
DS is 15m old, a couple weeks ago I noticed he was biting through the bottles so I introduced the Nuk transition cup which has a soft nipple and is similar, he didn't mind, still calls it baba and we never looked back.

Re: What age did you start to take the bottle away?
At 12 months we went down to 2 bottles a day. At 16 months we went cold turkey. I am expecting #3 in 2 months and wanted them off the bottle too. They don't seem to care, but their total milk intake has def decreased so we load them up with cheese and yogurt.

Re: What age did you start to take the bottle away?
DD is 20 months and will use straw and/or sippy cups for water and juice but she is adicted to her "baba" (milk bottles). I have tried offering her sippys saying its the same milk but she wont have it and throws a fit. I am choosing my battles and so far this is one I dont want to fight. I am hoping that she'll be done with "baba's" within the next 2 months...
