The minimum I give if attending as a couple is $300. After knowing how expensive my wedding was, I would feel bad giving anything less. If I couldn't afford it, I would decline the invitation. However, this is just my opinion.

At our wedding, we had people that gave less and people that gave alot more. It just depends on the person.

Agreed- I would also turn down the invitation if I couldn't afford it at the time being.

My sister once got $50 from her co-worker who brought a guest. She was shocked. But you know. . .

I'd have been really upset if someone didn't come to my wedding only because they felt they could not afford to give a nice enough gift. I invited people to my wedding to share in one of the biggest days of our lives - not to get gifts. I understand that people want to be generous, but generous is relative to one's circumstances.

Well said. I hate this cover the plate nonsense. If a person choose to go and spend a fortune on their wedding that is their choice but expecting people to reimburse them for it is crazy IMO.

When I was planning my wedding I didn't expect anyone to repay me for what I pay per plate. I just wanted my family and close freinds to be there celebrating a special time in my life. There were guests at my wedding that only gave me a card and I was very grateful for it because what was written in those cards meant more to me than the $$$$.

Thanks! I felt the same about my wedding.. i didnt invite for gifts.. Coworker knows im not rockafellar.. heck we work in the same place.. . she knows what i make around Chat Icon
