What reminds you of your childhood?

Are there things during the day that have happened recently that remind you of your childhood?

I'm listening to Disney station on Pandora right now and Aladdin "A Whole New World' is playing which brings me back.

Lastnight for a snack, I had some milk and these biscuits that I used to have when I was probably 2-3 years old. The taste brings me right back.

What reminds you of your childhood?

Scratch and sniff stickers! I found some at Dollar Tree recently, popcorn and bubblegum scents, and they even look "old". Totally reminded me of my childhood.

Small bags of potato chips (we used to have potato chip parties with them)

Now and laters

Refrigerator boxes. When I see one, I remember being so excited bc we used to build things out if them.

The song Girls just wanna have fun. Uhhhh that song comes on and I'm 8 again.

I miss those days. Care free. No real sense of time. The days before worries and real heartache.

-Anything Disney related. I loved Disney...still do! Especially Beauty and the Beast.

-The smell of sunscreen. Anytime I smell it I get deja vu of summer days in the pool with my cousins.

-The Christmas Season: decorating, songs, movies, stories, gifts, baking, cooking etc. It's always been my favorite time of year- as an adult, I still get that magical feeling that I used to get as a kid. LOL

OMG yes, the Baby-Sitters Club books. I loved them!!! Have you ever seen this?

And I'm with you on the Scholastic and Troll Book Orders...I loved getting them and picking out books!!

What reminds you of your childhood?

Punky Brewster for sures... Cosby show, Smurfs, Fraggle Rock (which I still watch when I have time). HBO has always done kids specials, one was Mother Goose Rock ~N~ Rhyme... all these 80's rockers & actors were in it - Debbie Harry, Stray Cats, so many others. I've tracked it down, can only find it on YouTube so far.

EVERY once in a while I get a sniff of rubber..but its a specific rubber smell.

1. Of the rubber goo you used to put at the end of a little straw and blow those multi colored balloons.

2. ONLY if you grew up in the 70's - There is that VERY distinctive smell of your Halloween costume that came in a box.

What reminds you of your childhood?

Music nearly ALL Beatles/McCartney

Two of Us - We three sang it as "three of us" while driving from California to Texas.

Her Majesty - I swore my father wrote that for me LOL its a short Beatles song.

Garbage Pail Kid cards - We used to collect them.

Looking at glass coke bottles (soda or pop if you will) and how I used to trade them in for money to buy my brother a gift.

Star Wars.. all of it. How we sat in front of the TV to watch or my brother and I would play in his room.

Otherwise I try very hard not to think of my childhood for very obvious reasons. Instead I focus on loving my daughter and creating memories with her.

I won't lie, though, seeing her will bring back memories all on its own. When I was 5 (as she is now) I was in Cuba. I remember beaches, clear blue water, the tubs of ice cream my brother got because he had his tonsils removed and there's no Ice cream there so we had it shipped in and all the kids had to eat it as fast as we could before it melted away. But with that comes others memories. Darker ones. So I focus on the good and skim past the others.

But of what little bright moments are there, they shine bright

Tales from the Crypt
Twilight Zone on TV and the movies!
Going to the movies alone as a kid
Howard the Duck
And odd.. but.. looking up a at Christmas Tree lights by laying under the tree... listening to the automatic tree lights ding along to Christmas carols. That's childhood I want to remember.. peace

and last but not least and the biggest for me??

the hidden pictures section in the Highlights magazines- my grandparents got me a subscription, and every time I went to their house we would spend hours going through the pictures trying to solve them.

shows that were on TGIF and Snick (amazon prime and Netflix has most of them on demand)

FINALLY someone knows about the torkelsons!!!! MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE!!! A few weeks ago, I started watching re-runs of the episodes on YouTube LOL. My goodness, I love them all.
