EXACTLY and HOW did they pour their hearts out to the police when they don't remember anything? All lies. They say that the public doesn't know the whole story. Well, Jessa, we read the 33 page document and it is ALL in there. They are just so uneducated and brainwashed that they all believe that the public is not smart enough to figure this all out. The public are not a bunch of bobbleheads who agree with you Jim Boob because you hold the purse strings and think you are the king. These poor girls should have never gone on TV and their husbands should be ashamed for putting them in this position and should get out of dodge with them and live a normal life.
Totally agree.

Re: What SHOULD the Duggars have done?
I totally agree. I think the victims should be offered some real counseling, by professionals.

I would have gotten him and the victims REAL therapy.
That's what I would say also. I feel they are at a rock and a hard place because they love all their children but let's face it they need therapy. Not religious camp

Re: What SHOULD the Duggars have done?
I will be perfectly honest, I don't know if this makes me a bad parent or not, but I don't think I would have gone to the police. But I also wouldn't have let my "religion" handle my problem. I would have confided in a medical professional and gotten my son counseling as well as my daughters. I definitely would have removed him from the household to insure it never gap penned again.

I think a counselor or clergy are both considered mandated reporters so police would have to know.

Re: What SHOULD the Duggars have done?
I have been wondering the same thing.
Going to the police doesn't seem like it would be most parents first instinct when it is your own child. real therapy seems like a better idea, but then as stated above, therapists are mandated reporters anyway.
I still think that is the best route. Also agree that this should have been done after the first incident.
So far, the girls haven't been blamed, but their whole culture puts the blame on women in general. The whole modest dress thing is done to not tempt men who can't control themselves (this is common in the strictest forms of many religions)
I don't think they talk about sex at all except "don't do it until you're married" and then give them a book on how to.

I think when they ran to the police, it was to someone they knew. I don't know if it was a scare tactic, but it did not work as the person they went to is in jail for child pornography.

What SHOULD the Duggars have done?
In response to the "why did they even tell them, if they were sleeping" comment. They absolutely should have told them. If you are molested, awake or not, you are still molested. Covering that up would be just completely wrong.

Exactly but they were NOT always asleep so another lie told by Mr. Jim Boob and Michele.

But they were SO young, little kids!! Why would you want to be in the position to explain being molested to a child so young..............especially if they didn't know?? Being molested can be such an emotionally damaging event that I don't see a need to burden a child with that knowledge and pain if it can be avoided. They didn't know, sometimes ignorance is bliss.
I don't see it as a "cover-up", I think of it as protecting the emotional well being of a young child. You can deal with the problem (Josh) without involving the UNKNOWING victims of his abuse. I don't know, I wouldn't want to put my child(ren) through that pain and torment if it could be avoided. I don't see what you gain by sitting down a group of very young children and explaining to them they were touched inappropriately when they were completely in the dark that it even happened. I think finding out later, when they are at an age where they can understand, process, and deal with the knowledge makes more sense. JMO.
ETA - Of course, I'm assuming the Duggars aren't lying about the girls always being asleep. If at ANY point even one of them was awake and aware then by all means I think you need to be open with them and get them the help they need to cope with the situation so they aren't damaged for life by what their brother did.

You're probably right, they probably did lie about them being asleep.

I can't believe that they did NOT lie about this as they lied about everything else AND the incident in the laundry rom and sitting on his lap were NOT sleeping girls. They were fully awake and from the records, one of the girls TOLD the parents about the laundry room incident.
First they were asleep and next they were pouring their hearts out to the police.
Oh and the girls lied on TV of their age when it happened too as people online figured it out that they were younger than the 12 Jill said she was and Jessa couldn't remember her exact age, even though she is only a year or 2 younger than Jill.
